Summary of Duties

The Landscape Architect reports to a supervisor and is responsible for planning, designing, and constructing municipal projects, supporting the capital construction program through project management, landscape architecture planning, design, technical detailing, site inspection, and more. Responsibilities include managing projects like parks, streetscapes, waterfronts, sports fields, playgrounds, trails, and graphic design tasks.

Key duties involve conducting planning studies, site analysis, coordinating contractors, developing master and conceptual plans, designing planting schemes, preparing reports, and overseeing construction contracts. The role also includes research, developing design guidelines, public communication, and representing the department in meetings and presentations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture, eligible for Full Membership with Seal in the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects (OALA).
  • Progressively responsible professional experience in municipal landscape architecture projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of landscape architecture principles, including park design, streetscaping, construction detailing, and site development.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, PowerPoint, and CAD software (preferably Bentley Microstation).
  • Effective communication skills in oral, graphic, and written forms; manual drafting ability.
  • Experience in construction supervision and contractor coordination.
  • Valid Class “G” Driver’s Licence.
  • Understanding of municipal planning policies is a plus.

This position requires proof of a valid Class G driver’s license after hire.

  • Salary Grade: R
  • Hours: 35 per week
