Summary of Duties

Reporting to the Supervisor, Facilities Management, this role involves performing maintenance at various Community Facilities, including Recreation Centres, Arenas, and Fire Stations. Responsibilities include troubleshooting, repairing, and preventative maintenance on carpentry, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, and fountain systems. The role requires hands-on technical work across multiple trades, effective communication, and flexibility for varying shifts, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment such as saws, drills, welders, and generators.
  • Perform structural work, including framing, insulation, and finishing according to Ontario Building Code.
  • Read blueprints, sketches, and drawings to determine specifications.
  • Construct and repair various fixtures and structures within community facilities.
  • Perform sheet metal repairs and prepare carpentry drawings.
  • Repair doors, hardware, and install various equipment and fixtures.
  • Conduct maintenance, including painting, vandalism repairs, and groundskeeping.
  • Handle asbestos and mould safety precautions.
  • Develop material lists and oversee procurement.
  • Maintain equipment such as pumps, valves, piping, and HVAC systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and mechanical systems, including fire and life safety systems.
  • Assist with repairs involving plumbing, fixtures, and fittings.
  • Adhere to health and safety legislation and city policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Current carpentry qualification in Ontario is an asset.
  • Experience with carpentry practices, tools, and materials.
  • Ability to operate power tools safely.
  • HVAC, plumbing, or welding licenses are assets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Safety training and certification are assets.
  • Valid Class G driver’s license and a working at heights certificate.
  • Current Certified Pool Operator certificate.

This position requires a valid Class G driver’s license and proof after hire. Salary Grade I, 40 hours/week. Evening and weekend work may be required, including emergency call-outs. The role complies with all health and safety policies.
