Role Overview

Reporting to the Manager, the Superintendent oversees contract services, wastewater, and stormwater operations, ensuring compliance with city and provincial standards, and meeting community needs with minimal disruption. This leadership role involves managing staff, budgets, and programs, and fostering a culture of efficiency, safety, and excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and advise staff, promote teamwork, and coordinate with stakeholders.
  • Develop and manage programs, budgets, and service delivery strategies.
  • Prepare technical reports, tender documents, and oversee contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Represent the department at meetings and public engagements.
  • Manage resources, monitor expenditures, and recommend improvements.
  • Perform site evaluations, provide technical expertise, and support emergency response.
Qualifications
  • Diploma as an Engineering Technologist (Civil preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and design standards.
  • Must obtain Operator in Training (OIT) certification within 6 months.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including the Ontario Water Resources Act and Environmental Protection Act.
  • Progressive supervisory experience in wastewater/stormwater management.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, GIS (Esri), and maintenance management systems.
  • Valid Class G Driver’s License.

Note: Successful candidates must pass a criminal background check and provide proof of driver’s license.
