Summary Of DutiesReporting to Supervisors of Building Inspections, performs inspection and reports on buildings to enforce Provincial legislations and Municipal by-laws.
GENERAL DUTIES- Attend properties and construction sites within the municipality and perform inspections; enforce the Building Code Act/Regulations and applicable municipal By-laws and Codes for various categories, including core inspection duties, permits, large and small buildings, farm buildings, signs, tents, stages, and more.
- Proactively attend properties and construction sites, enforce regulations, issue Orders to Comply, and other enforcement measures.
- Investigate and determine the safety and compliance of buildings, issue Unsafe Orders when necessary.
- Liaise with external agencies such as Police, Fire, Public Health, and Utilities.
- Conduct sewage system inspections, environmental audits, and oversee remediation protocols.
- Make in-field decisions on construction materials and methods, assess repair estimates, and oversee unsafe building reconstructions.
- Inspect structures for demolition, non-compliance, and alterations, and determine remedial actions.
- Communicate and coordinate with stakeholders, prepare reports, and represent the municipality in hearings and meetings.
- Maintain accurate records, schedule inspections, and review drawings and legal documents.
- Attend training, serve summonses, and adhere to health and safety legislation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned and standby duties with complex building qualifications.
Qualifications- Community College or University degree in Architectural or Civil Engineering Technology or related field.
- Eligible for OBOA Certification.
- Minimum four years of experience as a Building Official or similar, with at least two years in municipal inspections.
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to review technical documents, enforce regulations, and act independently.
- Proficiency in computer skills and numerical aptitude.
- Must possess Ministry qualifications in various building categories, with additional qualifications to be obtained within six months.
- Valid Class G Driver’s Licence required.
This position requires a valid Class G driver’s license and a satisfactory criminal reference check.
