A municipal services provider in Hamilton, Ontario, seeks a Project Manager to lead subsurface infrastructure initiatives. You will manage capital budget programs to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with regulations. The ideal candidate has a civil engineering background and experience in municipal infrastructure management. Project Manager - Subsurface Infrastructure, reporting to the Senior Project Manager – Subsurface Infrastructure Programming. This role contributes to delivering subsurface infrastructure services and promotes a service-oriented culture within the Infrastructure Renewal Section, collaborating with cross-functional teams and internal/external clients.
The Project Manager provides leadership to staff in a multi-functional team delivering services to the public and internal clients. It includes establishing and achieving departmental goals and objectives through effective use of financial and staff resources, applying best practices to deliver quality subsurface services in a timely and cost-effective manner. The role evaluates and reports on service, financial, administrative and staff performance against benchmarks, designs improvement strategies, and leads by example. It requires strong leadership, customer focus, innovation, teamwork, staff development, and high integrity with good communication.
The Project Manager is accountable for capital budget programs related to underground infrastructure to ensure service quality, cost-effectiveness, timely delivery, and legislative compliance. Develop and monitor major subsurface capital program initiatives and ensure alignment with City mission and vision.
Develop programs and budget strategies for underground infrastructure (water, wastewater, stormwater) and coordinate with Surface Infrastructure. Make recommendations on project priorities, resourcing, and related cost implications. Use management systems as planning tools for asset management and budget preparation, and work with other departments to coordinate asset management initiatives.
Initiate and direct investigations of new technologies related to water and wastewater infrastructure. Direct and oversee consultant assignments, including terms of reference, data collection, and review of submissions. Promote teamwork and integration within the Infrastructure Renewal Section and with other divisions/departments on cross-functional initiatives.
Develop and empower staff through delegation, regular feedback, and development opportunities. Monitor operations to ensure safety, service quality, cost-effective and timely delivery and compliance. Respond to issues raised by Council through the Director. Perform other duties as assigned related to the responsibilities of the position. Adhere to health and safety legislation and City policies.
THIS POSITION REQUIRES A VALID CLASS “G” DRIVER’S LICENCE AND PROOF THEREOF IS REQUIRED AFTER HIRE.
Salary: Salary Grade 6
Hours: 35 per week
