We are currently looking for a Job Cost Accountant that will organize documentation, complete transactions, and communicate with customers. This position will oversee job costing, ensuring policies and procedures are being followed to ensure accurate reporting.

This is an in-office role Monday through Friday, located at 9310 62 Avenue NW .

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update job cost records, ensuring accurate allocation of costs to projects.
  • Prepare detailed job cost reports and variance analysis for project managers and leadership.
  • Monitor project budgets, tracking actual costs versus estimated costs.
  • Assist in forecasting and evaluating financial impacts of project changes. Create job cards and enter budgets into accounting software
  • Process and review AP and AR invoices, purchase orders, and subcontractor payments to ensure proper job cost coding.
  • Payroll processing and compliance.
  • Work closely with project managers and estimation team to validate cost data and correct discrepancies.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting principles, company policies, and construction industry regulations.
  • Assist in month-end and year-end closing activities related to job cost accounting.
  • Partner with project managers, estimators, and field teams to improve cost tracking and reporting accuracy.
  • Generate financial reports, including Work-in-Progress (WIP) reports, profit/loss statements, and cash flow projections.
  • Provide recommendations for cost control and efficiency improvements.
  • Cash applications of customer payments and company bank account transfers.
  • Prepare monthly GST remittance; prepare monthly job cost reporting; perform gross margin & labour variance analysis.
  • Review job cost reports & accounts receivable monthly with management, suggesting process improvements as necessary.
  • Audit purchase requests for materials, supplies, labour, equipment, and other collateral; verify that orders are charged to the proper accounts.
  • Ensure accuracy of final figures, noting errors and the causes of any miscalculations.
  • Ensure monthly inventory counts are completed and job costs allocated; recommend adjustments to allocations or G/L when needed.
  • Reconcile & maintain balance sheet accounts (i.e. accrued liabilities, deposits payable, GST accounts, AFDA).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years in job cost accounting, preferably in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of job costing, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with project teams.
  • QuickBooks online experience.
