Job description

We’re building a relationship-oriented bank for the modern world. We need talented, passionate professionals who are dedicated to doing what’s right for our clients.

At CIBC, we embrace your strengths and your ambitions, so you are empowered at work. Our team members have what they need to make a meaningful impact and are truly valued for who they are and what they contribute.

What you'll be doing

As a Java Developer within CIBC's Shared Platform Technology department, you will be part of a development team where you will build, implement, and maintain high-performance, easily extendable solutions that enhance CIBC's core API ecosystem. You will contribute to the planning and strategy for the technical design and development of the framework, and perform research on new and emerging Cloud and AI technologies and platforms. The role requires strong analytical and inductive thinking, and the ability to independently see tasks through to completion. Proficiency in Java is essential, and familiarity with Quarkus is highly regarded.

At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. To successfully perform the work, you’ll be on-site full-time. You’ll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you’ll spend 1-3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote.

How you'll succeed

  • Design and Development - Act as a SME on the analysis and documentation of requirements, estimations for assigned work packages, and work with other teams for end-to-end implementation of program specific solutions. Participate in the design and development of cost-effective and innovative solutions to meet business objectives while also maintaining existing applications.
  • Programming Ability - Perform application programming and debugging activities: develop specifications, code, test, debug, and document solutions in order to ensure successful implementation and maintenance of programs. Use source code versioning, develop high coverage unit tests, and make use of build tools from both IDEs and the command line.
  • Leadership Skills - Be able to work independently: take ownership of tasks that have been assigned to you and independently follow them through to completion in a timely manner that meets deadlines. Lead code-review sessions and ensure overall code quality aligns with business and project requirements. Be able to troubleshoot application issues found in production and user acceptance testing.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate 5 years + industry experience. Using Object Oriented Analysis / Design, OO Design Patterns, and writing enterprise web application backends with Java. You have used a Java build tool such as Maven or Gradle, and are familiar with a source code versioning tool such as Git. You have professional experience with a Java framework such as Quarkus, Spring Boot or other comparable frameworks. Asset to have Quarkus experience and knowledge on projects. You are willing to learn about network protocols such as HTTP/2 and TLS, the Java virtual machine (and how to extract maximum performance from it), certificates and public / private key encryption, concurrency and Java multithreading.
  • You put our clients first. You engage with purpose to find the right solutions. You go the extra mile, because it's the right thing to do.
  • You’re goal oriented. You’re motivated by accomplishing your goals and delivering your best to make a difference.
  • You're passionate about people. You find meaning in relationships and surround yourself with a diverse network of partners. You connect with others through respect and authenticity.
  • You love to learn. You're passionate about growing your knowledge. You have a strong sense of curiosity.
  • You’re a certified professional. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or Technical discipline.
  • Values matter to you. You bring your real self to work and you live our values - trust, teamwork, and accountability.
