Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services Canada Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs in a modern enterprise environment.

The ideal candidate will own features end-to-end, mentor junior engineers, and drive delivery in an Agile setup, collaborating with product owners, architects, and QA to deliver high‑quality RESTful microservices and robust data access layers.

Qualifications

• Senior years of experience in backend software development.
• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
• Experience designing REST APIs and microservices architectures.
• Solid understanding of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns.
• Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
• Build and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Own technical deliverables from requirements analysis through production deployment.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, QA engineers, and development teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and solution planning sessions.
• Troubleshoot, optimize, and enhance application performance and reliability.
• Ensure adherence to coding standards, security practices, and development best practices.
• Participate actively in Agile/SCRUM ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance when required.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer with strong expertise in Java and Spring Boot to design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs. The ideal candidate will be a self-driven technical leader who can independently own features end-to-end, collaborate across teams, contribute to solution design, and drive delivery in an Agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and deploy backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.

Build and maintain scalable, secure, and high-performance RESTful APIs and microservices.

Own technical deliverables from requirements analysis through production deployment.

Collaborate with Product Owners, Architects, QA engineers, and development teams to deliver high-quality solutions.

Participate in architecture discussions, technical design reviews, and solution planning sessions.

Analyze and clarify ambiguous requirements and translate them into technical solutions.

Troubleshoot, optimize, and enhance application performance and reliability.

Ensure adherence to coding standards, security practices, and development best practices.

Participate actively in Agile/SCRUM ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives, and backlog refinement.

Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance when required.

Required Qualifications

Senior years of experience in backen d software development.

Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.

Experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices-based architectures.

Strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles and design patterns.

Experience with relational databases such as SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL.

Strong problem-solving, analytical, and debugging skills.

Ability to work independently and lead technical workstreams.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.

Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Knowledge of messaging/event-driven technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Azure Service Bus.

Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

Experience with automated testing frameworks and performance optimization.

Prior experience participating in architecture and design decisions for enterprise applications.
