Job summary

Sysco is hiring a Janitor to maintain high cleanliness and hygiene in a warehouse environment. You will perform deep cleaning, operate cleaning equipment, and manage sanitation inventories while following HACCP, GMP, and OSHA standards.

The role requires 0–2+ years of experience, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to train others. Some travel is possible to support production needs. You will contribute to a safe, clean facility and deliver excellent service to colleagues and customers.

Qualifications

  • Experience operating cleaning equipment and sanitation machinery.
  • Ability to train staff on procedures, equipment, and safety.

  • Assist in sanitation scheduling and process improvements.
  • Report maintenance issues and safety hazards promptly.
  • Disposal of waste and recyclables according to regulations.

Job description

Purpose

The Janitor performs a variety of cleaning and sanitizing tasks to maintain a high level of cleanliness and hygiene in the facility/warehouse environment. This role requires experience and understanding of sanitation procedures and equipment. The Janitor may also be required to work in the warehouse based on operational needs.

Responsibilities
  • Perform more complex cleaning and sanitizing tasks, such as deep cleaning of production areas, specialized equipment cleaning, and application of specific sanitizing agents.
  • Monitor and maintain sanitation supplies inventory, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper storage.
  • Operate and maintain a wider range of cleaning equipment, including specialized machinery and tools.
  • Conduct regular inspections of assigned areas to ensure adherence to sanitation standards and identify areas needing attention.
  • Train and guide staff on proper cleaning and sanitizing procedures, equipment operation, and safety protocols.
  • Assist in developing and implementing sanitation schedules and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions and perform basic maintenance on cleaning equipment.
  • Adhere to all safety regulations, company policies, and sanitation standards (e.g., HACCP, GMP).
  • Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or sanitation concerns to the supervisor promptly.
  • Properly dispose of waste and recyclables, adhering to environmental regulations.
  • Assist with packing of produce splits when necessary.
  • Handle stock carefully and properly to avoid damages.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Provide excellent customer service both internally and externally.
  • Hauling of inbound freight off the docks.
Skills
  • Proficient in operating a variety of cleaning equipment, including specialized machinery such as floor scrubbers, high-pressure washers, and steam cleaners.
  • Ability to train and guide other team members.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and sanitation standards (e.g., OSHA, HACCP, GMP).
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor equipment malfunctions and perform basic maintenance.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • 2 years general warehouse experience or related is an asset.
