Position Overview

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Curriculum Services and the Indigenous Education Advisor, the Indigenous Education Itinerant will support embedding Indigenous content throughout curricula and promote culturally responsive pedagogy through an anti-oppression lens. The role involves supporting K-12 school teams, deepening educator understanding of Indigenous education strategies, and liaising with community partners to foster inclusive and equitable learning environments.

Responsibilities

  • Support the goals of the Indigenous Education Team and assist in integrating Education for Reconciliation into school practices.
  • Facilitate embedding Indigenous perspectives across curricula, including specific courses like NAC 1, NBE, AP, and IB Indigenous Literature.
  • Develop and co-facilitate professional learning for staff.
  • Support Indigenous community partners through in-class support and guest speaker engagements.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Indigenous organizations.
  • Respond to inquiries related to Indigenous Education.
  • Promote anti-colonial, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and equity principles to address systemic inequities.
  • Assist in resource acquisition and ensure alignment with Ministry and Board initiatives, including the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
  • Provide support and information to the Indigenous Education Advisor.
  • Proven leadership, knowledge of Indigenous Education, Human Rights, Equity, and Inclusive Education are assets.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal, facilitation, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and foster teamwork.
