Company Overview

The Crump Group Inc. is a family-owned and operated premium pet treat manufacturer. Started in 2006, we have successfully established 3 market leading brands (Caledon Farms, Crumps Naturals and Dog Delights) distributed throughout Canada and the United States. We officially started production in our North Carolina facility in August 2023, we continue to ramp up production in this facility and we are planning an $85M expansion.

Position Overview

The Item Control Manager is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, consistency, and integrity of master data within the organization’s systems. This role plays a crucial part in supporting business operations by managing and maintaining essential data records, ensuring compliance with data governance policies, and facilitating effective data management practices. The Item Control Manager works closely with various departments, including IT, finance, and operations, to ensure data quality and support business processes.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Item Master Data Management: Establish, govern, and maintain a comprehensive and accurate item master within the ERP and related systems. This includes creating new item codes, defining key attributes and specifications, maintaining Bills of Materials (BOMs) and units of measure, and ensuring consistent data standards and integrity across all platforms.
  • Item Lifecycle Management: Own and manage the full item lifecycle—from creation and onboarding through changes, discontinuation, and archival. Ensure version control, proper change documentation, and structured obsolescence workflows aligned with business needs.
  • Data Governance & Quality Assurance: Develop and enforce data standards, validations, and change control processes to ensure high-quality, trusted item data. Perform routine audits to identify and correct discrepancies, redundancies, or errors.
  • New Product Development (NPD) Support: Coordinate item master setup and readiness for new product launches, ensuring accurate and timely integration into production, planning, and sales systems.
  • Process Development & Continuous Improvement: Identify inefficiencies in item control practices. Lead the design and implementation of standardized, scalable workflows, policies, documentation, and training programs to drive operational efficiency and system reliability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration & Support: Partner with teams including Procurement, Production, Quality, Regulatory, Sales, R&D, and Finance to ensure item data meets functional requirements and supports key business processes like costing, planning, and compliance.
  • Reporting, Metrics & Analysis: Create and maintain dashboards and KPIs to monitor data accuracy, usage trends, item status, and BOM changes. Use insights to drive corrective actions and highlight opportunities for supply chain and product portfolio optimization.
  • System Ownership & Change Management: Support ERP and MDM (Master Data Management) system configuration as it relates to item control. Participate in system implementations, upgrades, and enhancements, including testing, training, and documentation.
  • Compliance, Documentation & Audit Support: Ensure data practices comply with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Provide timely support for internal and external audits, including traceability of item changes and approval workflows.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in item control, inventory management, or master data management roles.
  • Strong understanding of BOMs, SKUs, UOMs, and item lifecycle processes.
