Job description

Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) - Deployment Lead

Role Overview:

We are seeking a strategic and results-driven AMI Deployment Lead to oversee the successful end-to-end delivery of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) programs across our client engagements. This individual will act as the central point of leadership and coordination, driving the implementation of smart metering solutions in alignment with client goals, regulatory requirements, and digital transformation initiatives within the Utilities sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead AMI project/program delivery from initiation through deployment, ensuring scope, timelines, and budget targets are met.

  • Manage cross-functional teams, including technical consultants, solution architects, vendors, and system integrators.

  • Act as a trusted advisor to utility clients, providing insight on industry trends, regulatory implications, and best practices.

  • Oversee implementation of key AMI components: smart meters, communication networks, MDM (Meter Data Management), head-end systems, and integration with back-end platforms (e.g., SAP IS-U).

  • Collaborate with change management, cybersecurity, and data analytics teams to ensure holistic program success.

  • Drive risk management, stakeholder alignment, and executive reporting.

  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, data privacy standards, and environmental considerations.

Qualifications:

  • 10 years of experience in utilities or smart grid delivery, with at least 5 years focused on AMI or related technologies.

  • Proven experience leading large-scale AMI or digital utility transformation projects.

  • Experience working with vendors and OEMs (e.g., Itron, Landis Gyr, Sensus).

  • PMP or equivalent project/program management certification preferred.

  • Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:

Strong understanding of AMI ecosystems including smart meters, RF mesh/PLC networks, MDM systems, and integration with ERP platforms (SAP, Oracle, etc.).

  • Experience in regulatory filings or utility commission engagement.

  • Background in agile/hybrid project management methodologies.

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity practices within AMI environments.

  • Experience in Canadian or North American utility markets is a strong asset.
