Job description

About you:

You’re a hands‑on IT generalist who enjoys being the go‑to person for technology and solving problems across a broad environment. You have a strong background in systems administration, infrastructure, networking, and end‑user support, and you’re comfortable working directly with employees, systems, and vendors.

You stay calm when troubleshooting and communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders and can translate technical risks, limitations, and investment decisions into practical business terms.

You’re comfortable being Vital Bio’s main IT person, while helping us build a more scalable IT function as the company grows. You don’t need to have seen every technology or solved every possible problem before, but you should have strong technical fundamentals, good judgment, and the ability to learn quickly.

You’re excited by the opportunity to support a mix of corporate, R&D, laboratory, and manufacturing environments, and to help shape how IT, infrastructure, security, and support evolve over time.

What you’ll do:
  • Provide responsive, practical IT support across the organization, covering hardware, software, account, application, and connectivity issues across Windows, macOS, and Linux environments.
  • Manage the endpoint lifecycle, including provisioning, configuring, maintaining, and retiring laptops and workstations through our device management platform, as well as supporting employee onboarding and offboarding.
  • Manage identity and access across Google Workspace, AWS, and other business applications, including provisioning, deprovisioning, permissions, MFA, and general access hygiene.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot the company network, including switches, firewalls, Wi‑Fi, VPNs, VLANs, internet connectivity, and site‑to‑site connections.
  • Support meeting rooms, collaboration tools such as Zoom, Teams, and Google Meet, as well as printers, cameras, displays, and other workplace technology.
  • Maintain core cybersecurity controls including endpoint protection, encryption, patching, MFA, vulnerability remediation, device compliance, and secure configuration.
  • Maintain backup systems and regularly verify that critical systems and data can be restored when needed.
  • Own the IT ticket queue and ensure issues are prioritized, tracked, resolved, documented, and escalated appropriately.
  • Maintain clear IT documentation, including SOPs, how‑to guides, network diagrams, system information, onboarding and offboarding procedures, and knowledge‑base content.
  • Manage day‑to‑day IT vendors, software licensing, renewals, purchasing, telecommunications providers, and service providers.
  • Automate repetitive tasks where practical using scripts, MDM policies, APIs, configuration templates, or workflow tools.
  • Build a clearer inventory of systems, owners, integrations, dependencies, infrastructure, data flows, and critical technology so changes can be assessed and managed safely.
What you need:
  • 5+ years of progressive IT experience, including ownership of core infrastructure and services across an organization. Demonstrated ability to plan and deliver IT projects, manage vendors and budgets, set technical standards, and communicate technology risks and priorities to leadership. Comfortable moving between strategic planning and hands‑on troubleshooting in a growing company.
  • Strong expertise managing and troubleshooting Windows and macOS systems; Linux familiarity a plus.
  • Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, Wi‑Fi/LAN/VPN, and rack‑mounted switch/AP installations.
  • Proficient with MDM suites and asset management tools, including device provisioning and remote wiping.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose, prioritize, and resolve IT issues, providing customer‑first service and documentation.
  • Skilled communicator with an approachable, professional style.
Bonus points for:
  • Track record in regulated industries such as medical devices, diagnostics, or biotechnology.
  • Familiarity with lab/manufacturing IT, including isolated networks, instrument PCs, VLAN segregation, and OT/IoT devices.
  • Certifications (CompTIA, Cisco, Microsoft, cloud platforms) and support for compliance and audit processes.
  • Experience implementing automation, monitoring, and ticketing systems.
  • Experience creating process documentation and user training content.
  • Scripting skills (Bash, PowerShell, Python) for automation.
  • Experience with Jira/Confluence, Slack, Zoom Rooms, and asset‑management platforms.
Why Join Us?
At Vital Bio, you will:
  • Directly enable groundbreaking diagnostics and scientific innovation by supporting our multidisciplinary teams.
  • Be a trusted technical resource and advocate for best IT practices in a collaborative, agile culture.
  • Grow professionally through hands‑on projects, best‑in‑class technology, and meaningful cross‑functional work.
  • Help shape the future of healthcare and technology with a company committed to excellence.

The salary range for this position is $90,000-$110,000 annually. Compensation will be determined based on the individual’s demonstrated experience, education, training, relevant certifications or licensure, and other applicable business and organizational factors.

This role is a current, onsite vacancy.
