Job summary

Aspect Biosystems is seeking an IT Systems Administrator to lead the Technology Engineering team in Vancouver. You’ll shape IT strategy, manage core software systems, and enforce cybersecurity while enabling secure, high-performing tools for a clinical-stage biotech environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in IT/CS with hands-on experience managing corporate IT infrastructure, preferably in a clinical stage biotech/pharma or regulated industry.
  • Expert familiarity with Google Workspace management and security, and with network security infrastructure.
  • Experience securing endpoints across local and remote sites, and implementing cybersecurity best practices based on risk and business needs.
  • Curiosity about industry trends, security events, and evaluating new technologies to improve security and efficiency.
  • Ability to lead across functional teams and deliver a high-impact IT function with a holistic view of the company’s mission.

Responsibilities

  • Develop IT infrastructure strategies that scale with company growth.
  • Partner in establishing digital systems for early-stage clinical product development and manufacturing.
  • Oversee design, architecture, and maintenance of core software systems and Google Workspace.
  • Drive safe AI usage and collaborate with Computational Design to automate processes.
  • Define and enforce global cybersecurity posture and risk-based controls.
  • Direct network security strategies, firewalls, endpoint protection, and intrusion detection.
  • Evaluate and improve IT support systems and end-user troubleshooting.
  • Manage IT assets, hardware lifecycle, software deployment, and license optimization.
  • Maintain core IT documentation and training materials.
  • Evaluate, select, and manage technology vendors to maximize value and service delivery.
  • Continuously assess processes, technologies, and vendors for optimization and innovation.

Job description

We're looking for an IT Systems Administrator to join our Technology Engineering team. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in developing and executing IT strategies that support our company’s growth and day-to-day operations as we transition to a clinical stage biotech. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you’ll play a crucial part in directing our core software systems, enforcing robust cybersecurity best practices, championing the safe and effective use of AI, and ensuring our team has the secure, high-performing tools they need to succeed.

Responsibilities
  • Contributing to the development of IT infrastructure strategies that directly support and scale appropriately with the company’s growth and operations.
  • Acting as a critical thought partner and participating in establishing digital systems associated with early-stage clinical product development and manufacturing.
  • Overseeing the design, architecture, and maintenance of core software systems, including Google Workspace, to ensure optimal performance, security, and user confidence.
  • Driving the effective and safe use of AI, and work with the Computational Design team to establish tools and processes that deliver operational efficiency through automation.
  • Helping to define and enforce the global cybersecurity posture, applying best practices from a risk-based and business‑needs perspective.
  • Directing network security strategies and tools, including firewalls, endpoint protection, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Critically evaluating and improving technical support systems and ensure timely and effective end user troubleshooting.
  • Governing the management of IT assets, including hardware lifecycle, software deployment, and license optimization.
  • Maintaining and bolstering core IT documentation, including standard operating procedures, user guides, and training materials.
  • Evaluating, selecting, and managing technology vendors, to maximize value and service delivery for the organization.
  • Continuously analyzing current processes, technologies, and vendors to identify areas for system optimization and innovation.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Education & Experience: You hold a Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline, paired with significant hands‑on experience operating corporate IT infrastructure, preferably as part of a clinical stage biotech/pharma or similarly regulated industry.
  • Knowledge: You have expert familiarity with managing and securing Google Workspace, network security infrastructure, endpoints across local and remote sites (including scientific and manufacturing equipment), and implementing cybersecurity best practices in a business‑needs and risk‑based manner.
  • Intellectually Curious: You have a burning desire to stay current with industry trends and important security events, and you aren’t afraid to continuously analyze and challenge current processes to identify areas of improvement. You are tech‑forward and genuinely enthusiastic about evaluating and adopting new technologies that can improve operational efficiency and security, while maintaining the necessary controls of a clinical organization.
  • Leadership: You work effectively across functional teams, lead through influence, and know how to operate a right‑sized, high‑impact IT function that delivers immediate success while always keeping a holistic view of the company’s mission.
  • Problem Solver: You love to make operations run without a hitch and relish the chance to immerse yourself in difficult technical issues. You’ve got an eye for coming up with solutions that work for the team and maintain a solution‑oriented mindset.

The hiring range for this role is $124,466 - $140,025, annually. Our ranges are based on market data. Offered salaries will be based on a combination of factors including, but not limited to, job‑related knowledge, skills, education, and experience. For candidates who exceed role requirements, we are open to exploring above‑range offers. Note that base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at Aspect.
