A community support organization in Winnipeg is seeking an IT Support Technician to provide technical support and training to users. The ideal candidate will have relevant post-secondary education or experience in IT, strong communication skills, and a valid driver's license. POSITION TYPE INDEFINITE TERM, FULL-TIME, 37.5 HOURS/WEEKJob SummaryThe IT Support Technician is responsible for assisting system users directly by conducting on-site training to promote efficient operations, answering questions to avoid or resolve systems-related problems and providing technical support for all users at NETES.Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Assist with on-site training of routine terminal/personal computer use of agency applications and office automation systems; present basic orientation to new users and provide ongoing training.
  • Assist in the maintenance of: antivirus solutions, technical library, audio-visual resourcing, ADSL and high-speed cable modems, firewall and proxy servers, organization data integrity, software licensing, high speed cable modems, and the setup and support of email messaging.
  • Assist personal computer users in resolving basic hardware and software related problems.
  • Build and repair computers and servers.
  • Provide support with cabling and wiring.
  • Install hardware/software; relocate equipment as required.
  • Keep up to date with new technologies (both hardware & software).
  • Provide web/multimedia (layout & design, CD authoring, publication).
  • Provide technical and help desk support.
  • Refer complex problems to supervisor or other designated contact as appropriate.
  • Review new software applications prior to full implementation to determine ease of use and detect potential problems.
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve as required.
  • Update all current records pertaining to information systems.
  • Maintain and uphold confidentiality guidelines as outlined in policy.
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of NETES.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Relevant post-secondary education related to information technology and/or a combination of experience in the IT field.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, technical experts and other employees.
  • Ability to resolve basic hardware and software problems.
  • Some knowledge of hardware/software installation and ability to make minor adjustments to equipment.
  • Knowledge of personal computer operating systems and Microsoft Office applications, database systems, and internet use.
  • Knowledge of the operation, care and adjustment of computer peripheral equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle with the ability to travel within city limits.
