Job summary

An airline headquartered in Toronto seeks an IT Support Technician responsible for providing technical support to its user community and ensuring the stability of corporate networks. Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Service Management, the IT Support Technician is responsible for providing assistance and support to the Porter user community, ensuring network availability and performance, and managing inventory of equipment. This role includes level 1 and 2 technical support, problem determination, and off-hours coverage.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to ensure stability of corporate networks and applications.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate network and security policies and procedures.
  • Respond diligently to reported incidents from users.
  • Install, support, and maintain computers and network peripherals.
  • Support users in remote offices.
  • Assist hosted network providers to maintain WAN/LAN stability and performance.
  • Coordinate with third-party application/software providers.
  • Maintain accurate network and system documentation.
  • Manage and update hardware and software inventories.
  • Participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS), report hazards and incidents, and promote safety policies.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
  • At least 2 years of technical experience or exposure.
  • Solid knowledge of Windows OS (XP and later) and MS Office Suite 2010 through Office 365.
  • Good understanding of MacOS.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols/principles (TCP/IP, VPN).
  • Understanding of wireless technologies (802.11a/b/g/n/ac) and encryption methods.
  • Knowledge of cellular technologies.
  • Assets include familiarity with MS-Active Directory, Google Workspace, Cisco switches, VLANs, and VoIP.
  • Highly motivated with initiative.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Willingness to travel, including to US destinations.
  • Availability for off-hours work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
