IT Support Summer Student

About the Role:
Are you a tech-savvy student eager to gain hands-on experience in IT support and contribute to organizational efficiency? The Regional Group of Companies is seeking a motivated Summer Student to join our IT team. Reporting to the IT Operations Manager you will assist in supporting business objectives, development projects, and the overall company vision within the Regional Group of companies.

Key Responsibilities:

General:

  1. Provide timely and friendly front-line IT support services to all Regional Group locations within the Ottawa region.
  2. Utilize a centralized ticketing system to collect end-user incident reports, computer asset information, and other relevant data for the identification and resolution of IT-related problems.
  3. Collaborate with vendors and consultants to address escalated support incidents.
  4. Assist in the collection, recording, and upkeep of IT-related best practices, system configurations and diagrams, asset inventory, policies, and procedures.
Technology/Vendor Specific:
  1. Install, configure, and maintain end-user applications and devices (MS Office 365, Windows 11, Mobile device management, IP telephony, helpdesk ticketing system, video conferencing “MS Team Rooms”).
  2. Configure and maintain domain-based Windows desktops and laptops (Windows 11, Mac OS).
  3. Perform Adds/Moves/Changes for user accounts and basic troubleshooting.
  4. Manage file share security with Adds/Moves/Changes and basic troubleshooting.
  5. Support networked printers and end-user peripheral devices.
  6. Conduct network device analysis, general hardware upkeep and maintenance, and patch/update management as needed.
  7. Perform other technical tasks as required.
About You:
  1. Currently enrolled in a college or university program.
  2. Basic understanding of IT concepts and willingness to learn.
  3. Ability to work independently on-site with remote guidance and team escalation points available.
  4. Proactive in identifying, reporting, and troubleshooting problems, with a commitment to providing excellent service.
  5. Excellent communication skills, active listening, and a friendly demeanor.
  6. Highly responsive to end-user needs, with a natural inclination to provide exceptional customer service.
  7. Organized with efficient time management skills.
  8. Strong work ethic and punctuality in attendance and meetings.
  9. Professional attire and conduct are always expected.
  10. Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
