Job description

IT Specialist I - Medical School Support

This position provides frontline IT support for the Medical School building, including assistance with desktops, classroom technology, video conferencing, and computer labs. Responsibilities include responding to helpdesk requests, documenting basic procedures, and creating simple user guides and helpful tips for faculty, staff, and students. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • Associate’s degree in Information Technology or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least one year of experience providing technical support in a helpdesk or desktop support environment.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office applications (including Outlook).
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware (printers, monitors, etc.) and software issues.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written instructions and accurately document work.
  • Willingness to learn, take direction, and work as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a university or educational setting.
  • Familiarity with video conferencing tools (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom).
  • Exposure to classroom AV technology or lab environments.
  • Ability to create simple how-to guides and user-friendly tips.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to help others solve problems.
Physical Demands
  • Must be able to lift and move computer equipment (up to 50 pounds).
  • May require crawling under desks or accessing tight spaces to set up equipment.
  • Must be able to walk between campus buildings to provide in-person support.
