Local 500 are hiring Field Technicians

The Field Technician is responsible for the implementation, support, maintenance and inventory of infrastructure and hardware in the department portfolio, in line with the department’s objective of delivering the highest quality services to multiple terminal facilities in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner.

The successful applicant will have at least 3 years of related technical experience and will bring exceptional communication, interpersonal and organizational skills to the role. Additionally, he or she will possess strong computer literacy skills, and the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, make fast and accurate decisions and work in a self-directed manner. Practical knowledge of automated system and network monitoring tools, strong time management skills and the ability to complete activities within time constraints are important attributes required for this role. The successful candidate will have a strong team orientation and ability to contribute to realization of team goals and customer satisfaction. He or she will have working knowledge of IT infrastructure including vehicle mounted data terminals, wireless networks, position detection, OCR and monitoring/alerting systems and an understanding of incident, change, and problem management processes. Software development and/or database management experience are considered desirable assets.

The successful applicant must be available to work all shifts in a 24/7 environment and acquire Transport Canada Security Clearance, as well as holding a Class 5 drivers license.

Preference will be given to those with previous experience within a technically challenging and diverse environment; ideally in an industrial setting, unionized operations as well as a high school diploma or equivalent training. Candidates will have a minimum 2 years post-secondary relevant technical training. Candidates will undergo aptitude testing, interviews, a pre-employment medical and a security check as part of the selection process.
