Job description

Vanderlande systems employ the latest in robotic, mechanical, and software technology. Our customers are household names in e-commerce, package delivery, and air transportation.

As the Operational Technology (OT) Specialist (LLC and SCADA), you are responsible for ensuring the Vanderlande Baggage Handling Solution at YVR is capable of performing per design, providing technical support during major complex incidents during operations, identifying and detailing opportunities for system improvements, and supporting the commissioning and testing of changes or extensions to the baggage handling solution. You will be part of a growing Service department for our YVR service organization at the airport, reporting to the Service Manager. Occasionally, you will need to travel to our local project office or to our Atlanta headquarters. You will have frequent contact with our customers, the internal organization, and suppliers.

Job Description :

  • Provide technical OT leadership and architectural support to the O&M Service Team and customer.
  • Act as the technical subject matter expert for BHS applications (i.e. LLC, VIBES, BPI, ITMC, etc.) and liaise with BHS Operations Specialist and Process Engineers to analyze OT System Behavior.
  • Help, train and develop the BHS Operations Specialists, with the support of the Operations Manager, to strengthen their support capabilities and toolsets. Prepare the YVR Control Room Team to take on support of new releases and new applications.
  • Work with customers to establish Continuous Improvement requirements and propose solutions for OT changes.
  • Manage OT risk mitigation in operations, projects, and external interfaces; build close relationships with Airport OT and Operations departments.
  • Manage the OT Lifecycle of BHS system equipment and propose improvements and solutions.
  • Manage requirements, integration, configuration of OT and software changes throughout the life cycle of the baggage handling solution (define release plans).
  • Analyze performance trends, recognize opportunities, and proactively implement upgrades and enhancements, especially on the OT level (infrastructure as well as application design).
  • Day-to-day OT and HLC operations support as a technical leader contributing to Incident Management.
  • Take a leading expert role in solving complex multidisciplinary (Mechanical, Electrical, PLC, IPC & PC) incidents, complex problem resolution, fault finding and root-cause analysis.
  • Validate and ensure complex integrated change / modification / extension requests are vetted against the overall design and will deliver the desired solution performance.
  • Drive continuous improvement of incident resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure integrated systems of the material handling solution cooperate and function adequately to ensure optimal performance and identify and minimize (technical) risks, especially on OT and HLC level.
  • Work closely with baggage control room, 2nd and 3rd line support subject matter experts, CSC, and IT service desk (Controls applications and IT infrastructure escalations), global service desk.
  • Responsible for the technical quality and successful acceptance testing of modifications / extensions to the baggage handling solution from the OT (and HLC) perspective.
  • Identify and detail (in cooperation with Vanderlande experts) modifications, changes and improvements to the baggage handling solution.
  • Advise the Vanderlande Project teams of needed improvements for project execution and propose technical OT solutions for complex and multidisciplinary problems.
  • Support Execution of projects from conception through client handover with a positive result contribution on the organization's technical performance.
  • Oversee the transition of complex systems to live operations to ensure system functionality and alignment to customer’s operational requirements.
  • Support the system design from mechanical, hardware, system and network design, software development (PLC and / or PC / IT related systems), integration of different components, system commissioning and testing through to final handover to the customer.
  • Plan, monitor and report progress, costs, and risks for major new developments (architecture, programming, integration, and testing).
  • Evaluate system performance after go-live to drive continuous improvement of system performance and facilitate process improvement.

Required Education and Experience :

  • Experienced to degree level in a relevant engineering competency.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in controls technology.
  • Hands-on experience with Siemens, Allen Bradley, or / and Schneider PLC.
  • Strong communication skills, both spoken and written.
  • Some experience with high-level controls (SCADA, IT Networks, databases, software, etc.).

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Engineering or Computer Science.
  • Understand Controls software for automated logistics systems.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work :

This is a full-time position. We support a 24 / 7 operation so some flexibility is required.

Travel :

  • Occasional travel to customer sites in North America is required.
  • Some international travel will be required for training purposes.
  • Must have a valid passport.

Supervisory Responsibility :

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment and Physical Demands :

  • The role will require site visits, and candidates should be able to access unhindered these environments, in order to perform essential functions of this job. These will include site inspections and visual checks if and when required.

  • The role will require the candidate once established to provide cover for other team members, and assist in training, development and mentoring of other members of the team. Salary Range :

This is a full-time, exempt position, eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. The salary range listed represents the maximum and minimum starting base pay for this position as of the time of posting. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent. Salary range for this position is CAD$87,000 to CAD$105,000.
