JOB TITLE: IT Construction Project Manager

REPORTS TO: Director of IT

LOCATION: Toronto, Ontario (Hybrid)

Position Overview:
We seek an experienced and motivated project manager to join our dynamic team at UNIQLO to assist with our expansion in North America. As a project manager with experience in construction and IT, you will be responsible for planning, coordinating and managing the IT aspects of new store construction. Your responsibilities will include developing and managing project budgets, creating detailed schedules and overseeing resource allocation to ensure optimal execution. You will conduct regular site inspections, review construction plans and specifications, identify potential risks, implement proactive measures to mitigate them and verify that all the work is performed to the highest quality standards.

Objectives of this role:

  1. Planning, coordinating and managing all phases of construction projects, including project initiation, planning, execution, monitoring and closeout.
  2. Establishing project objectives, scope and deliverables in collaboration with stakeholders and ensuring alignment with client requirements.
  3. Developing and managing project schedules, budgets and resource allocations to ensure cost efficiency and timely delivery.
  4. Liaising with architects, engineers, contractors and subcontractors to monitor construction progress, resolve issues and ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  5. Managing procurement processes, including bid evaluations, contract negotiations and vendor selection.
  6. Oversee project budgeting and cost control and manage change orders to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
  7. Conducting regular site inspections to assess project progress, identify risks, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
  8. Maintain effective communication with project team members and stakeholders to provide project updates, address concerns and foster strong working relationships.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Develop comprehensive project plans, including timelines, resource allocations and procurement strategies.
  2. Coordinate and Oversee all phases of project execution, from pre-construction to completion, ensuring adherence to project schedules and specifications to high-quality standards.
  3. Collaborate with a team to ensure incomparable service delivery and build lasting relationships.
  4. Provide exceptional management for projects, multitasking all project-related items across various projects simultaneously.
  5. Evaluate and select contractors and subcontractors based on qualifications, experience and cost-effectiveness.
  6. Monitor project progress, track key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on project status to stakeholders.
  7. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and legal requirements, prioritizing a safe working environment for all involved.
  8. Manage construction project documentation, including contracts, permits, drawings and change orders.
  9. Conduct regular meetings to facilitate communication, address challenges and to meet project objectives.
  10. Provide regular updates and reports on project status, including milestones, budget updates, and any significant developments or risks.
  11. Implement and enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with local building codes and regulations.
  12. Carry out thorough project evaluations and assessments to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary corrective measures.
  13. Provide leadership and guidance to the project team, fostering a collaborative and managed high-performance work environment.

Qualifications:

  1. A bachelor's degree in a related field.
  2. 5+ years of relevant experience in construction project management, with a minimum of 2 years in a senior management role.
  3. Proven track record of successfully managing complex construction projects.
  4. Relevant professional certification in project management or construction management, like Project Management Professional (PMP).
  5. Strong knowledge of telecommunications and IT construction in the North American context.
  6. Knowledge of local construction regulations, permits and approval processes.
  7. Knowledge of risk management and budget management principles.
  8. Familiarity with construction of retail stores in North American shopping malls.

Required skills:

  1. Excellent project management skills, including effective planning, organizing and prioritizing tasks.
  2. Exceptional communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
  3. Proficiency in using Procore.
  4. Experience with construction contract negotiations and claims management.
  5. Familiarity with lean construction principles and methodologies.
  6. Strong financial understanding and experience in project budgeting and cost control.
  7. Strong leadership and communication skills to manage project teams and stakeholders.
  8. Strong English language communication skills (written, oral, and conflict resolution skills), Speaking French and/or Japanese is an asset.
  9. Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documents, including project blueprints and construction schematics.
  10. Proficiency in construction management software, project scheduling tools and cost estimation software.
