Position Overview

Under the direction of the Manager of PSCC Operations and Information Systems, this entry level position is responsible for the administration, maintenance and support of various information technology applications used by the Saint John Police (SJP). This position is essential for maintaining the integrity and reliability of the SJP applications that facilitate police operations ensuring members have the tools required to serve the community effectively. Must be prepared to work outside of regular working hours or being on call to handle any police related emergencies or critical incidents.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support for applications utilized by the Saint John Police, including records management system, digital evidence platforms, scheduling tools, and other law enforcement applications.
  • Respond to and resolve police application-related incidents and requests in a timely manner.
  • Participate in testing and validation of police application upgrades.
  • Collaborate with end-users to identify police application issues, gather requirements, and implement solutions to enhance application performance.
  • Assist in the deployment and configuration of new Saint John Police software applications and updates.
  • Create and maintain documentation for application procedures, troubleshooting guides and user manuals.
  • Assist users and provide ongoing support of police applications to enhance technical skills.
  • Work closely with external vendors to resolve technical police issues.
  • Participate in projects for application upgrades, migrations and new implementations.
  • Work in collaboration with the City of Saint John Information Technology department on other projects and applications.
  • Performs other duties as required

Essential Qualifications

  • Proficient with Windows O/S, Microsoft Office 365 including Teams, SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and OneDrive.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems in a timely manner.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
  • Strong verbal/written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Required to be flexible and adapt quickly to new technology
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with law enforcement applications would be an asset.

PRE-REQUISITES

  • Must be security cleared
  • Must take an Oath of Confidentiality

Education/Experience

  • The successful candidate must possess a two-year diploma program in database administration, computer science, programming or a related field from an accredited college.
  • Two years of experience in application support or a similar IT role, preferably within law enforcement.
