Job summary

Wright Tree Service of Canada is hiring an ISA Certified Arborist to lead tree health and safety initiatives across urban and rural sites. The role reports to the Project Manager, involves pruning, planting, and safe removal of trees with specialized equipment, and requires supervising crews on active job sites.

As part of Wright Canada Holdings, you’ll work with a team that emphasizes safety, integrity, and stewardship, and you may travel to perform field duties.

Qualifications

  • Must hold ISA Certified Arborist certification.
  • Experience in pruning and tree care is required.
  • Ability to supervise crews and coordinate tasks on job sites.
  • Willingness to travel for outside work as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Prune trees to remove dead, damaged, or diseased branches.
  • Trim overgrown trees to improve structure, appearance, and safety.
  • Perform crown thinning, crown raising, and crown reduction to promote healthy growth.
  • Ensure proper pruning techniques to avoid damage to trees.
  • Remove trees that are dead, diseased, or pose hazards.
  • Use chainsaws, ropes, and cranes to remove trees safely in tight spaces.
  • Work with tree-climbing techniques or aerial lifts for larger trees.
  • Supervise arborist laborers or tree care crews during projects.
  • Coordinate and manage tasks on large job sites with safe practices.
  • Evaluate site conditions and recommend best tree care practices.

The Position: ISA Certified Arborist

Type: Full-time

Reports To: Project Manager

Role Description:

The ISA Certified Arborists play a crucial role in managing the health and safety of trees in urban and rural environments. This position is responsible for various tasks related to the care, management, and preservation of trees, including diagnosing tree diseases, pruning, planting, and ensuring safe tree removals.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Prune trees to remove dead, damaged, or diseased branches

  • Trim overgrown trees to improve their structure, appearance, and safety

  • Use appropriate equipment (e.g., chainsaws, ropes, cranes) to safely remove trees in tight spaces

  • Work with tree-climbing techniques or aerial lifts for larger trees

  • Supervise arborist laborers or tree care crews during tree care projects

  • Coordinate and manage tasks on larger job sites, ensuring smooth operations and safe practices

  • Evaluate site conditions and recommend the best tree care practices for the location

  • Inspect trees for signs of disease, pests, or structural problems

  • Assess tree health and recommend corrective actions, such as pruning, pest control, or soil management

  • Keeps informed of new equipment and specifications, standards, practices and operating procedures

  • Use appropriate tools for each task

  • Assume responsibility for the inspection and proper working conditions of tools, trucks, and other work equipment

  • Request repair or replacement of equipment when necessary

  • Maintain detailed records of tree care activities, including treatments, inspections, and maintenance schedules

  • Keep track of equipment and material usage, reporting the status of trees as needed

  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright’s culture of safety and employee ownership

  • Comply with applicable federal, provincial, and municipal laws, rules, and regulations; maintains knowledge of and follows all company policies and procedures

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings

Other Duties:

  • Position may require outside travel

  • During emergencies or natural disasters may be required to be on duty for the duration of the disaster

  • Works around excessive noise from machines, chainsaws, woodchipper and must wear proper personal protective equipment

Supervisory Duties:

  • Train and support team members in learning about tree identification, tree removal procedures, tree disease identification and treatment, and other aspects of the job as needed

  • Supervise crew members to ensure that safety procedures are followed, especially when working around high-voltage electrical equipment, including tree trimming practices
