Job Description
The Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for agency clients, primarily seniors, during weekdays, evenings, and / or weekends. This includes transporting clients to and from the Adult Day Program and assisting with the delivery of Meals on Wheels, pantry boxes, emergency meals, and other food-related items within the community.
Additional responsibilities may include courier services and other transportation support as required. The Driver plays a key role in promoting client independence and supporting daily operations with professionalism and compassion. We are looking for : 1 part-time, permanent Driver (F Licence required). Hourly Rate : Commensurate with experience Hours of Work : Part-time; Thursday - Sunday, from 7 : 00 am to 5 : 30 pm. Van pick up location is 9600 Bathurst Street and 4211 Yonge Street. Reports to : Manager, Client Services
Responsibilities
Customer Service
Effectively meets all client services requirements in a courteous and professional manner.
Proactively troubleshoots problems, deals with difficult situations, and escalates to Manager of Transportation when extra assistance is required.
Participate in client satisfaction initiatives that continuously improve quality levels.
Ensures the safe operation, maintenance, neatness and cleanliness of the vehicle.
Keeps the Manager of Transportation informed of required maintenance and any damage done to the vehicle.
Completes vehicle checklist before taking the vehicle out for the day.
Maintains adequate gasoline in vehicle and follows procedures for gasoline credit card use.
Health and Safety Management
Responsible for identifying health and safety concerns and injury reporting.
Participate in health and safety processes and procedures.
Participate in maintaining a safe workplace environment.
Participate in all health and safety training initiatives.
Evaluating any potential hazards and identifying clients at risk for adverse health and safety events, taking preventative measures when necessary to minimize recurrence.
Reporting all safety events impacting clients, caregivers and families in a timely and honest disclosure.
Qualifications
Must hold a valid F driver’s licence with a driving record in good standing.
Minimum of 5 years Canadian driving experience.
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem solving skills.
Experience working with seniors or vulnerable populations preferred
Willingness to assist seniors with varying physical impairments.
Knowledge of vehicle maintenance.
Demonstrated ability to safely operate a passenger van.
Demonstrated efforts to continuously update skills.
Ability to lift 30 to 50lbs
Prior Meals on Wheels delivery or related experience is an asset
Language skills are an asset (e.g. Russian, Yiddish, and Hebrew).
