PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

CPKC’s Pension Team, recently honored with the 2025 CEO Award for Excellence, offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to investment and pension plan management in a corporate setting. As Specialist, Pension Asset Management, you will play an essential role in the Plan’s investment program by supporting investment strategies that span multiple geographies and asset classes. The Specialist will have the opportunity to engage with leading global asset managers and work closely with teams and leaders across CPKC.

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist with the development of investment strategies by performing research, preparing detailed analyses and creating and delivering presentation materials to support recommendations to senior management
  • The Specialist’s primary focus will be on the Plan’s real assets and private credit portfolios, with opportunity to participate across all areas of the pension plan asset allocation and liability management
  • Implement approved investment strategies by contributing to investment manager searches, conducting due diligence on prospective investments, negotiating investment agreements and completing portfolio transitions
  • Monitor investment performance and oversee the preparation of performance reports
  • Assist with managing pension asset operations, including forecasting cash flows and approving transactions such as cash transfers, expense payments, capital calls, and FX transactions
  • Assist with annual financial statement preparation and controls
  • Develop and maintain a network of global investment managers and service providers

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Actuarial Science, Mathematics or other relevant field
  • A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience
  • Investment management with specific knowledge of pension investment and operations preferred; or pension plan management, developed in a pension consulting environment or working for a corporate or public-sector pension plan
  • Progress towards a relevant professional or educational designation, such as Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
  • Working knowledge of corporate finance, treasury, and accounting

Management Conductor Program

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
