Carries out the intake of complaints and reports and conducting investigations of complaints and reports regarding professional misconduct, incompetence, and incapacity.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Carries out the intake of complaints and reports by assessing and analyzing information for risk to the public and in accordance with right-touch and risk-based principles.
  2. Carries out early resolution processes for complaints and reports.
  3. Explains College of Nurses of Ontario’s (CNO) professional conduct processes to members of the public, registrants and system partners.
  4. Presents matters before the Inquiries, Complaints and Reports Committee (ICRC) for decision.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  1. Regulated professional with a university degree in the health or legal field (e.g., BScN, MSW, MScPT, MScOT, JD) or professionals with experience working in regulation.
  2. 3-5 years relevant experience in investigations, risk management, professional regulation, dispute resolution or health care.

  6. Planning and Organizing – Identifies competing priorities and uses excellent case management skills to assess, prioritize, and balance conflicting demands. Develops plans and implements processes to facilitate time management.
  7. Analytical and Critical Thinking – Applies knowledge of the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 and related legislation when assessing and analyzing information to consider various nursing standards and determine applicability to the case; assesses the nature of concerns by gathering witness statements and relevant documentation to achieve a full understanding of the issue; finds further information to resolve inconsistencies and makes informed recommendations/decisions by identifying and analyzing relationships between two or more factors to determine the most appropriate regulatory response.
  8. Attention to Detail – Requires close attention to details when reviewing numerous witness statements and relevant documents for inconsistencies and identification of key details; develops methods for organizing and tracking information.
  9. Problem Solving – Gathers, analyzes, evaluates, and organizes all relevant information, considering relevant facts and identifying the main issue; uses knowledge of related legislation and CNO policies when carrying out intake and early resolution processes and presents matters to the ICRC to render a decision.

Hiring Range: $104,285 – $110,819

Full Salary Range: $104,285 – $125,142
