Job summary

First National Financial LP in Toronto, ON is seeking an Investigations Specialist to join Risk Management. The full-time role focuses on due diligence reviews, fraud detection, and risk assessment within mortgage underwriting.

Responsibilities

  • Review daily reports to identify potential fraud and trigger enhanced due diligence within SLAs.
  • Respond to daily broker onboarding reviews and ongoing monitoring and quality assessments.
  • Conduct appraiser reviews and maintain approved appraiser lists.
  • Investigate suspected fraud applications and analyze closed mortgages.
  • Lead complex fraud investigations involving external parties.
  • Communicate findings to Sr. Management concisely and clearly.
  • Write summary reports for internal and external partners.
  • Manage incoming inquiries in the Quality Assurance mailbox within turnaround times.
  • Interact with internal/external partners to assess risk and prioritize investigations.
  • Perform other duties and AML-related tasks as assigned.

Reporting To: Manager, Risk Management

Full-Time/Part- Time: Full-time

Posting Date: September 11, 2026

Salary Range: $55,000-$70,000

Hours of Work: 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

Grade: 8.6

Office Location: Toronto, ON

The Opportunity

The Investigations Specialist is responsible and accountable for conducting a variety of due diligence reviews.

How you will contribute
  • Responsible for reviewing daily reports that identify potential fraud and notify the underwriting department when enhanced due diligence (EDD) is required within SLAs.
  • Responding for daily broker on-boarding reviews and ongoing monthly monitoring and quality assessments
  • Appraiser reviews and quality assessments, including the maintenance of the internal and external approved appraiser list
  • Investigating, evaluating, and maintaining data concerning suspected fraud applications and closed mortgages.
  • Lead complex fraud investigations involving external parties.
  • When potential risk to the Company is identified, communicate findings to Sr. Management in a concise manner
  • Writing summary reports for internal and external partners
  • Manage all incoming inquiries in the Quality Assurance mailbox within specified turnaround times
  • Interact with internal and external partners, disseminating and evaluating information and tips received in order to assess the potential risk to FN, prioritize investigations when required
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to policies/procedures to ensure AML requirements are met, when applicable
The experience you need
  • Must understand the end to end mortgage application process and general credit adjudication/underwriting knowledge
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong written communication skills required. Must have the ability to summarize complex data in writing.
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear and detailed explanation and analysis
  • Must have the ability to multitask and prioritize extremely high volumes with tight deadlines.
  • Must have the ability the assess risk and make critical decisions quickly with little oversight
Working Environment and Physical Demands Analysis

  • Prolonged periods of repetitive movement (i.e. using a keyboard and mouse)
