One of our major clients is looking for an Investigation and Learning Focal to join their team on an 18-month contract in Kitimat, BC.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain and improve the company's Incident investigation process and practices.
- Investigate incidents according to the company's process and implement effective corrective actions.
- Ensure timely reporting to regulatory bodies and proper documentation (e.g., WorkSafeBC, TechSafeBC, Transport Canada, BCER).
- Promote incident reporting awareness and use of the Causal Learning methodology across the business.
- Support and facilitate HSSE incident investigations using the Causal Learning methodology.
- Develop and maintain a group of Causal Learning facilitators; manage the HSSE Incident Investigation & Learning Competency Development Framework.
- Develop and implement an Improvement Plan for Incident Investigation and Learning aligned with the company's strategy.
- Assess and improve the quality and effectiveness of IIL processes and materials; support assurance activities.
- Embed learning from incidents by collaborating with stakeholders and the broader IIL network.
- Ensure compliance with HSSE Control Framework requirements and incorporate changes into procedures.
- Create engaging asset/LOB learning materials and coach others to do the same.
- Develop HSSE and Line Managers' skills in delivering learning from incidents; maintain a motivated network to reduce repeat incidents.
- Analyze incident data for trends and weaknesses; work with teams to address gaps.
- Support or lead the development of reflective learning materials and alerts from investigations.
- Coach users on the incident management system and maintain the Risk Ranking methodology.
- Support the Reliability team with incident reporting and monitoring guidance.
Additional responsibilities as operations increase:
- Engage with leadership and contractor groups to provide coaching in incident investigation and learning.
- Lead and influence non-HSSE professionals as facilitators.
- Communicate with JVP investigation and learning networks.
- Work with HSSE systems and site personnel to analyze data and identify systemic issues.
- Coordinate with the Communications team to ensure messaging aligns with branding and communication strategies.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary degree or certificate in engineering or equivalent experience.
- Expertise in HSSE investigations and learning from incidents.
- 7+ years of HSSE experience in industrial, petrochemical, or large projects.
- Experience coaching employees and leaders.
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
- Skilled in challenging and coaching leadership to improve performance.
- Ability to lead through influence.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Additional skills:
- Proficiency in Causal Learning Methodology; experience facilitating complex investigations.
