Overview

Invest Ottawa Volunteer Advisors

Join a flexible, low‑touch volunteer role to share your experience with Ottawa’s early‑stage tech startups. By contributing your knowledge and leadership, you can guide founders through the challenges of building technology companies and help them navigate their growth journey.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and insights based on leadership experience in technology companies (Founder, C‑level, VP, Director) or equivalent roles.
• Assess startups’ challenges and ask targeted questions to help founders make strategic decisions.
• Build trusting relationships with mentees through strong communication and active listening.
• Contribute as a mentor/advisor and share your experience in your profile; provide references if requested.
• Participate in Mentorloop for introductions to mentees and manage your availability by setting your profile to "hidden" when needed.

Qualifications

• Previous or current leadership experience at a technology company.
• Familiarity with the startup lifecycle and scaling teams through growth stages.
• Ability to identify challenges and offer practical guidance and questions.
• Strong emotional intelligence, trust-building, and communication skills, especially listening.
• Proven experience as a leader/mentor with verifiable references.
• Desire to give back to the Ottawa startup community.

About Mentorloop

Mentorloop is the volunteer advisor platform used to connect startups with experts. Founders and leaders can search the network to find mentors who match their challenges and guidance needs. Mentors have final say on mentee connections and can set their profile to hidden when unavailable.

Additional Information

This is an unpaid position and hours are not guaranteed; activity depends on client demand each month. Applications are selectively reviewed due to volume.
