As the Inventory Planner, you will be responsible for the management, planning and forecasting of inventory to achieve the optimum balance between internal client service and the cost of carrying inventory.
What will you do?
- Control and maintain SAP Material Requirements Planning (MRP) parameters and transactions while identifying needs based on historical and forecasted demand to optimize inventory levels across a wide range of warehouse locations, with a variety of stocking strategies
- Maintain precise inventory data and balances to optimize inventory value and prevent overstatement or understatement of inventory investment
- Review historical demand prior to initiating replenishment orders to ensure future requirements are flagged and reduce MRP issues
- Regularly review and analyze material classifications, based on usage, cost, or movement, to ensure accurate material master records and proper material classification
- Work with clients to ensure the planning process considers all strategic initiatives and daily business requirements
- Analyze statistical data to determine best replenishment methods to ensure inventory is stocked in locations that have demand and that the appropriate SAP stocking parameters are in place for every inventoried item
- Partner with warehouse operations, supply chain personnel, and internal Fleet/City operations clients to identify and manage obsolete and surplus inventory
- Ensure the development of comprehensive end-to-end processes, reduce inventory risk, and optimize customer service levels
- Work closely with Operational Purchasing team members to analyze requirements, impacts of market conditions, vendor lead times, requirements and other supply chain factors, and to develop strong vendor relationships
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to forecasted demand and MRP requirements
- Act as a go-to subject matter expert on issues regarding inventory policies and procedures, SAP, M5, Precisely Automate (WinShuttle) and other ERP applications
- Complete SAP transactions and meet assigned Service levels and KPI's including, but not limited to, on time in full (OTIF), inventory turns targets and inventory investment levels
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Degree in Business Administration or a related discipline. Specialization in operational Inventory Management and Planning would be an asset
- 2 years experience in an Inventory Management and Operational Warehousing environment including purchasing and supply chain management
- 2 years experience in a computerized ERP environment utilizing Inventory planning modules, including forecasting with preference to SAP
- Or a combination of these equivalent to 2 years of experience
Assets:
- SCMP designation from SCMA or CPIM designation from APICS are assets
Skills required for success:
- Knowledge of inventory management, planning and forecasting, and warehouse operations practices, policies, procedures, and controls
- Expertise in ERP systems related to procurement and inventory applications; SAP is preferred
- Ability to assess complex situations, resolve, or provide guidance and coordinate remedial actions with minimal supervision
- Expert user in Excel, including ability to create and use pivot tables and complex formulas; proficiency in Microsoft Word and G Suite applications
- Strong understanding of a Fleet Maintenance System such as the M5 system and associated processes are assets
- Experience working with a variety of operational items such as engines, transmissions, MRO, and direct & indirect components related to Vehicle Fleet Maintenance (assets: Bus, Trains, Snow Plows, Tractors, Graders, Light/Heavy Duty vehicles)
- Excellent analytical, forecasting and planning, problem solving, time management, organization, communication, negotiation, interpersonal, and customer service skills required

- Note: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52.
