Position Description

TheIntraoperative Supply Coordinator role is responsible for the delivery of safe, effective, and quality care in the Operating Room. This role functions as a nursing support role during operative and other invasive procedures. The role provides support to the clinical teams in gathering patient-specific supplies that align with the surgery pick list and preference card list and assisting with the set-up of the clinical equipment in the operating room at the direction of the nursing team. The role is responsible for maintaining clinical service-specific supplies (red label items picked by nurses) in the operating room, and service-specific specialty cart (ie Burn) inventory levels. The role also assists in quality projects and process improvement initiatives in collaboration with the quality and leadership teams.

Here's what you'll get to do:

  • Participate as an active member of the operating roomteam, reporting directly to Clinical Manager, Operating Room.
  • Act as a liaison between the operating room nurses and other clinical team membersfor operational support of rooms.
  • Proactively review OR cases 24 hrs in advance to identify supply needs for the specific cases.Reviews the daily and weekly surgery schedules to anticipate supply needs for the ORs.
  • Employpar level and first-in/first-out methodologies to avoid both out-of-stock situations and expired items. Checks for out-dates or recalls on inventory.
  • Tracklow-use and expired products in the OR.
  • Identifyopportunities to adjust the pick list and preference cards reflected by trends.
  • Exerciseindependent judgment to coordinate the picking and delivery of supplies. Works with MDRD, CSNs, and Periop Supply Chain to assure that OR supply availability meets the demands of surgical patient care.
  • Pullsurgical-specific supplies for cases and adds them to case carts.Checks case carts for completeness.
  • Actively participates on the POCU Quality Committee and on OR quality improvement and efficiency projects (pick lists, on-time starts).
  • Contributes to follow-up on supply or equipment safety reports in collaboration with the Quality Leader.
  • Provides orientation and support for new OR Clinical Extern program. The Clinical Extern is supported by this role and provides regular assessment of the Clinical Extern development in the setting. Collaborates with the OR Manager regarding Extern's progress.
  • Review all nursing items and stock all red-label items on the supply carts in all OR rooms. Replace as necessary.
  • Participate in OR daily CIP discussions.
  • Practice the principles of asepsis in a knowledgeable manner.
  • Reports safety issues and problems/needed repairs promptly.

  • Experience working within an Operating Room environment.
  • Completion of post-secondary education preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job including standing, pushing/pulling carts, walking, reaching forward, reaching above and below the shoulders, lifting.
  • Effective organizational/prioritization skills, ability to plan work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to meet frequent deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Ability to work independently and be flexible and adaptable.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
