Intermediate to Senior Geotechnical Engineer (2026081476)

Thurber has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate to Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in Calgary, Alberta.

Thurber provides geotechnical, environmental and construction materials engineering and testing services for a variety of industries across Canada. Our multidisciplinary expertise allows us to work on problems related to earth, the environment and construction materials. We solve problems in a wide variety of industries including transportation, building construction, municipal infrastructure, land development, dams and water resources, industrial development, mining, oil and gas, marine and environmental services.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and leadership on projects and for staff, including conducting technical reviews of calculations and analyses, as well as performing technical analyses where appropriate.
  • Provide guidance, and where necessary, support in coordination and preparation of cost estimates, tender submissions, technical documentation, client reports, progress reports, project scheduling / resourcing, and meeting deadlines and budgets on projects.
  • Scoping projects and assisting in the preparation of proposals.
  • Support mentoring, coaching and training of staff.
  • Work with the Branch Manager in the development of new business opportunities.
  • Establishing, developing, promoting and maintaining relationships with clients.
  • Active participation in the field on a project specific basis as dictated by the needs of the project to meet client expectations and project objectives.
  • Manage projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications and Assets

  • Completion of a post-secondary program in Civil or Geological Engineering;
  • Graduate Degree (Masters or higher) preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in geotechnical investigations, analysis and reporting for shallow/deep foundations, earthworks, slope stability, retaining structures, etc.
  • Experienced with drilling investigations (auger, sonic, CPT, etc.), logging, instrumentation, and coordination
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in the Geotechnical or Geological Engineering field;
  • Class 5 Drivers license;
  • Comfortable driving mid to full-sized pickup trucks in urban, rural, and construction environments;
  • Comfortable working in a variety of environments, including local and remote construction sites;
  • Proficiency with spoken and written English language is required; and,
  • Eligible for membership with APEGA.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills (i.e. spreadsheet and word-processing); and,
  • Ability to work independently and cooperate with a team in various environment.

  • Drug and alcohol testing may be required prior to accessing client sites; and,
  • 3 Year Driver's Abstract and a Claims Experience Letterwill be requested;
