Job summary

GEI Consultants, Inc is seeking an Intermediate Systems Integrator to support SCADA programming and integration for municipal water/wastewater projects. You will develop PLC/HMI applications, support FAT/SAT activities, and contribute to project documentation.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to configure SCADA servers/workstations, develop dashboards, and ensure compliance with client standards. Travel to project sites in Ontario as needed.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or related discipline.
  • 7–10 years in municipal/industrial automation and SCADA integration.
  • Experience with PLC platforms (Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Siemens).
  • Experience with SCADA/HMI software (Ignition, AVEVA System Platform, GE iFIX).
  • Experience configuring virtualized server/workstation environments (VMware/Hyper-V).
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical/instrumentation drawings.

Job description

GEI Consultants is seeking an Intermediate Systems Integrator to join our growing team. In this role, you will support the delivery of SCADA programming and integration work for municipal water/wastewater infrastructure projects. You will collaborate closely with the senior systems integrator and talented group of engineers, technologists, and multidisciplinary teams to develop PLC/HMI programming, FAT/SAT activities, and supporting project documentation.

  • Develop, modify, test, and commission PLC, PAC, and SCADA applications for municipal water treatment plants, wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, and distribution/collection systems.
  • Configure and program HMI, OIT, panel computer, and operator interface applications in accordance with client standards.
  • Develop control logic, process automation sequences, alarm management, data collection, reporting, and operational dashboards.
  • Participate in the design and implementation of instrumentation, process control, electrical, networking, and telemetry systems.
  • Review process narratives, P&IDs, control philosophies, and instrumentation documents to develop and maintain control programs.
  • Configure and integrate PLCs, SCADA servers, historian systems, client workstations, communications networks, and remote telemetry systems.
  • Configure, deploy, and support virtualized SCADA server and workstation environments using platforms such as VMware vSphere/ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V, or equivalent technologies, including virtual machine provisioning, backup, recovery, and lifecycle maintenance.
  • Develop and revise AutoCAD drawings for control system projects, including electrical schematics, control panel layouts, network architecture diagrams, I/O drawings, and as-built documentation.
  • Perform I/O verification, point-to-point testing, startup support, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Lead and participate in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and system commissioning activities on-site.
  • Coordinate with process, mechanical, electrical, and civil design teams to ensure successful system integration.
  • Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and equipment documentation for compatibility with control system requirements.
  • Develop and maintain SCADA standards, programming standards, and documentation packages.
  • Prepare functional design specifications, commissioning plans, test procedures, and as-built documentation.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues and provide technical support to plant operations and maintenance staff.
  • Deliver operator and maintenance training and support knowledge transfer to municipal operations personnel.
  • Ensure compliance with client-specific SCADA standards, operational requirements, regulatory obligations, and industry best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Automation Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, or related discipline.
  • Minimum 7 to 10 years of experience in municipal and/or industrial automation, PLC programming, SCADA integration, and controls engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience on municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Working knowledge of PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley ControlLogix, CompactLogix, Schneider, Siemens, or equivalent.
  • Experience with SCADA/HMI software such as Ignition, AVEVA System Platform, GE iFIX, or similar platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience configuring and supporting virtualized server and workstation environments for industrial control or SCADA systems using VMware, Hyper-V, or equivalent platforms.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD for reviewing, developing, and updating electrical, instrumentation, control panel, network, and as-built drawings.
  • Experience with industrial communication protocols including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, and related protocols.
  • Experience conducting FAT, SAT, startup, commissioning, and field troubleshooting activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret P&IDs, control narratives, electrical schematics, instrumentation drawings, and network architectures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact directly with municipal clients, operations staff, contractors, and consultants.
  • Valid driver's licence and ability to travel to project sites throughout Ontario.
  • Eligibility to work in Canada.

Preferred / Asset Qualifications
  • Experience with municipal SCADA standards such as City of Hamilton, Region of Peel, York Region, Halton Region, Niagara Region, Region of Waterloo, or other Ontario municipalities.
  • Experience with system migrations from legacy control platforms to modern PLC/SCADA platforms.
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary infrastructure projects
  • Experience with virtualization architecture, high-availability configurations, backup and disaster recovery strategies, and cybersecurity considerations for industrial control system environments.
  • Experience with database integration, report development, KPI dashboards, and historian platforms.
