Dillon’s Transportation & Facilities technical group is looking for an Intermediate Structural Engineer (Bridges) to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

At Dillon, we operate as one team. This position is available at any of our Nova Scotia offices.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Design

  1. Provide design leadership and technical expertise on a variety of structural projects, including structural design and analysis of bridges, culverts, and other transportation structures.
  2. Preparation of preliminary and detailed design calculations.
  3. Perform structural analysis and prepare design calculations to include 2D and 3D analysis for bridges as well as foundations, infrastructure, and retaining walls.
  4. Develop structural details and construction plans using SAP2000, CSiBridge, and/or STAAD.
  5. Prepare specifications and details for drawing production in addition to Code and regulatory review.
  6. Preparation of technical reports.
  7. Review shop drawings and field services in design and construction.

Project Management

  1. Project manage structural engineering team activities and support to project managers/technical staff in the delivery of multidisciplinary projects across the company.
  2. Coordinate design team activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.
  3. Effectively engage with sub-consultants and clients.

Business Development

  1. Leadership in providing quality client services, with particular emphasis on government and infrastructure contractor clients within the transportation market.
  2. Contribute to proposals and development of new business opportunities.
  3. Business travel upon request.

Learning & Development

  1. Commit to self-development and ongoing learning and professional development.
  2. Input to the career development of junior staff, including technical direction, training recommendations, coaching, and mentoring.
  3. Contribute to Dillon’s corporate profile through active participation in professional associations and committees.
Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  1. A degree in civil engineering. A graduate-level degree would be an asset.
  2. Licensed to practice as a professional engineer or eligible to be licensed within six months.
  3. Six to ten years of relevant work experience in structural design for the intermediate role.
Experience
  1. Experienced in the design of various bridge types, culverts, and other transportation structures.
  2. Proficient in the full range of design activities, including preparation of preliminary and detailed design drawings and reports, contract document preparation, and tendering.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant structural engineering Codes and standards.
  4. Proficiency in the use of computer modeling techniques using SAP2000, CSiBridge, or STAAD and familiarity with current AutoCAD software.
  5. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  6. Proficiency in providing technical leadership to a team of professionals.
  7. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills along with both verbal and written communication.
  8. Strong technical report and specification writing skills.
  9. Experience in construction contract administration would be an asset.
