Job summary

CIMA+ Vancouver is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer to join our growing Infrastructure team. You will work on industrial and municipal projects, focusing on seismic analysis and retrofits, underground structures, and utility infrastructure.

You’ll collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions and contribute to project proposals. The role requires a minimum of 8 years in structural engineering, a civil/structural degree, and active EGBC licensure or

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering; licensure with EGBC preferred.
• 8+ years of structural engineering experience with seismic analysis/design.
• Experience with industrial/municipal infrastructure projects.
• Proficiency in relevant Canadian/international codes and standards (NBCC, CSA, ACI/AISC/ASCE).
• Proficiency in SAP2000, SAFE, and AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete and steel structures including underground structures and foundations.
• Perform seismic analysis and design for structural components and retrofits.
• Evaluate existing structures for seismic performance and develop strengthening solutions.
• Prepare structural calculations, drawings, specifications, and reports; assist in project documentation.
• Coordinate with clients, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams; oversee junior engineers.

Our growing Infrastructure team in BC is looking for a Structural Engineer to join our Vancouver office. The successful candidate will work on industrial and municipal infrastructure projects involving underground structures, electrical substations, retaining walls and utility infrastructure systems.

Our projects include underground concrete structures (vaults, manholes, chambers), duct banks, substations, utility corridors, equipment foundations, and related industrial facilities. We work within multidisciplinary teams providing civil, structural, electrical, and geotechnical coordination to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions.

Primary Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design of reinforced concrete and steel structures, including underground structures, equipment foundations, retaining structures, substations, and industrial facilities.
• Perform seismic analysis and design of structures and non-structural components, including seismic force-resisting systems, equipment anchorage, foundations, and structural retrofits.
• Evaluate existing structures for seismic performance and develop strengthening and retrofit solutions where required.
• Perform structural assessments, condition assessments, and rehabilitation design for existing infrastructure.
• Prepare and review structural calculations, drawings, technical specifications, design reports, and construction documents.
• Determine construction costs and quantities, and carry out studies and technical reports
• Conduct field work including investigations/inspections for the design, retrofit, remediation and construction of structures
• Liaise with clients, contractors, utility authorities, and multidisciplinary teams
• Review progress and compliance of construction work in accordance with tender documents
• Assist in proposal preparation, scope definition, and fee estimation.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and designers, as appropriate.
• Profile
• Bachelor’s degree in civil or structural engineering
• Master’s degree in Structural Engineering (considered an asset)
• Professional Licensed member of the EGBC (or eligible)
• +8 years of relevant experience in structural engineering
• Experience in the seismic analysis and design of reinforced concrete and/or steel structures.
• Experience with seismic assessment and retrofit of existing structures considered an asset.
• Experience with industrial, utility, municipal, substation, or other infrastructure projects considered an asset.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience applying relevant Canadian and international structural design codes, standards, and industry guidelines, including NBCC, CSA standards, and internationally recognized standards such as ACI, AISC, ASCE, and etc.
• Proficiency in SAP2000, SAFE, and AutoCAD
• Strong report writing and proposal development skills
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
