Intermediate / Senior Wetlands and Vegetation Ecologist

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Wetlands and Vegetation Ecologist to join our Transportation and Municipal team across Alberta and Saskatchewan. This role involves full project lifecycle responsibilities, from proposal to regulatory permitting and construction, reporting to the Group Manager and Technical Leads.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare Wetland Assessments, delineation, classification, and ABWRET reports
  • Understand and apply Alberta Watercourse and Outfall Codes of Practice
  • Navigate environmental legislation at municipal, provincial, and federal levels
  • Conduct ecological field surveys for vegetation, soils, wetlands, fisheries, and wildlife
  • Mentor junior staff and develop high-quality proposals and reports
  • Manage contracts and project files, with occasional travel for fieldwork

Qualifications

  • B.Sc. in Biology or Tech Diploma with relevant experience
  • Registration with professional bodies (e.g., P.Biol., P.Ag.) is an asset
  • Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental regulations, especially Alberta policies
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5 GDL removed)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; GIS skills are an asset
  • Experience in habitat restoration and project management
