Job summary

ZE Power Engineering in Richmond, BC, is seeking an OH Distribution Engineer to support administrative tasks within our distribution engineering team. You will assist with design reviews, documentation, and project coordination for overhead and underground distribution projects.

The role requires 5+ years in power utility distribution, strong knowledge of transmission and distribution networks, and proficiency in SPIDA-Calc/CYME.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology; Electrical preferred.
• Professional Engineer (EGBC) license or eligible.
• Minimum 5 years in power utility distribution design.
• Strong knowledge of power transmission and distribution networks and standards.
• Experience with SPIDA-Calc or similar software preferred.
• CYME or equivalent power engineering tools an asset.
• BC Hydro design systems and standards experience preferred.
• BC Class 5 driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Prepare/review designs, documents, calculations for distribution projects (4kV–35kV).
• Use CAD software to perform design tasks.
• Act as Professional of Record on assigned projects.
• Coordinate with other disciplines and stakeholders.
• Support project documentation: specs, tender docs, reports and project calculations.
• Analyze existing engineering processes and support improvement efforts.
• Provide training and mentorship to junior staff; assist recruitment/on-boarding.
• Assist in project coordination and business analysis within the PM discipline.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and/or review designs, documents, calculations, drawings, estimates for distribution projects involving overhead or underground system ranging in voltage from 4kVto 35kV. This could include pole line design, underground cable system design, equipment replacement/upgrade, load flow analysis, protection coordination, etc.
• Use CAD software and computer-aided design methods to perform design.
• Act as the Professional of Record on assigned projects.
• Interface with other design disciplines, coordinate with related stakeholders, and assist team leads and managers
• Support documentation process for projects including technical specifications, tender documents, technical reports and project calculations
• Analyze existing engineering processes and support the development of improved processes
• Provide training, mentorship and guidance to junior staff.
• Assist recruitment and on-boarding of new staff.
• Assist in a variety of project support activities including project coordination, strategic planning, client support, and business analysis supporting the project management department.

Qualifications

• A degree from of an accredited Engineering or Engineering Technology institution. Electrical Engineering preferred.
• Engineering degree and registration with EGBC.
• Minimum 5 years engineering and design experience in the Power Utility Distribution industry.
• Strong knowledge of Power Transmission and Distribution networks and standards.
• Knowledge in the use of Spida-calc or equivalent finite element pole line analysis softwarestrongly preferred.
• Knowledge in the use of Cyme or other equivalent power engineering software an asset.
• Experience with BC Hydro's design systems and standards strongly preferred.
• BC Class 5 driver's license for those residing in BC
