At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We’re an employee-owned, 400-person multidisciplinary consulting firm—not too big, not too small. We’re large enough to compete head-to-head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close-knit team.

Our size and hands-on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers—without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.

You’re an ideal candidate if you have:

  • A thorough understanding of provincial and federal environmental regulations related to contaminated sites management.
  • A demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast paced, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience in preparing technical and cost proposals.
  • Experience in conducting, coordinating and managing field programs, including the management of project resources and budgets.
  • Ability to manage business relationships with clients, regulators and service providers/sub-contractors.
  • Experience working with federal government clients will be considered an asset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products such Word and Excel are required. Proficiency with other software, such as CAD, GIS, Surfer, gINT, and hydrogeology modeling software, will be an asset.

A typical day on the job might look like:

  • Provide consulting services as an Intermediate Environmental Professional in the field of contaminates sites management and Excess Soils for government and private industry clients.
  • Apply comprehensive knowledge of scientific/engineering principals to environmental and multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Manage and complete contaminated sites projects, including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, risk assessments and environmental compliance monitoring programs.
  • Prepare and review proposals and technical deliverables.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Environmental Team, as well as other GEMTEC staff and offices, to plan, design and execute environmental and multi-disciplinary projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Work with other GEMTEC staff to evaluate needs and contribute to the growth and development of our Environmental team.
  • Adhering to all company policies.
  • Other duties as required.

The good stuff you get:

  • Fair pay plus extra: competitive salary with year-end profit-sharing bonus
  • Complete health & dental coverage including vision, paramedical services, and Teladoc
  • Retirement planning made easier with a 5% employer match on your contributions
  • Paid time off (vacation and sick days) plus Employee & Family Assistance Program when you need it
  • Office year-end closure (paid time off between Christmas and the New Year)

Your background and what you bring:

  • At minimum an undergraduate degree in related field.
  • Registered Professional (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geo.) or eligibility, with a minimum of 5 to 10 years of experience in the management of contaminated sites (e.g., environmental site assessment, remediation, risk assessment / risk management, environmental monitoring, site closure).
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, as well strong organizational abilities, with respect to the capability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time with a view to delivery of a quality product on time and on budget.
  • Valid driver’s license
