Job summary

WSP in Canada is seeking an Intermediate Piping Designer to join our Energy team and deliver complex industrial projects. Working from our Canadian offices in Alberta, Ontario or British Columbia, you will develop safe, efficient piping systems and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.

You will produce PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, isometrics and equipment layouts, review vendor drawings, and support field reviews. Some travel to client facilities may be required.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Engineering Design, Drafting Technology, or related field.
  • 5–7 years of piping design experience in industrial/oil & gas/EPCM environments.
  • Proficiency with CADWorx, Plant 3D, and related design tools.
  • Experience producing P&IDs, plot plans, isometrics, and equipment layouts.
  • Ability to read engineering specs, vendor drawings, and process information.
  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Willingness to travel to client facilities and project sites.

Responsibilities

  • Develop PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, piping layouts, general arrangement drawings, and isometrics that support safe and efficient facility operations.
  • Create and maintain 3D piping and equipment models using industry-standard design software.
  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, and project teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
  • Review vendor and third-party engineering documents and integrate design information into project models and drawings.
  • Conduct field reviews and site visits to gather information and verify existing conditions.
  • Produce and update as-built drawings to ensure accurate project documentation.
  • Support project execution by identifying potential scope changes and communicating them to project leaders.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior drafting and design team members.

Join our growing team as an Intermediate Piping Designer and play a key role in delivering complex industrial and energy projects. Working from any of our Canadian offices in Alberta, Ontario, or British Columbia, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop safe, efficient, and innovative piping systems that support traditional and emerging energy markets.

You will contribute to projects spanning oil and gas, carbon capture, renewable fuels, hydrogen, power generation, and energy transition initiatives, helping clients solve today's challenges while shaping tomorrow's infrastructure.

Your Impact
  • Develop PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, piping layouts, general arrangement drawings, and isometrics that support safe and efficient facility operations.
  • Create and maintain 3D piping and equipment models using industry-standard design software.

The Skills That Set You Apart
  • Diploma in Engineering Design, Drafting Technology, or a related discipline.
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in piping design within industrial, oil and gas, energy, or EPCM environments.
  • Strong proficiency with CADWorx, Plant 3D, and related design platforms.
  • Demonstrated experience producing piping deliverables including P&IDs, plot plans, isometrics, and equipment layouts.
  • Ability to interpret engineering specifications, vendor drawings, and process information.
  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently while seeking guidance when needed.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to client facilities and project sites for field reviews and data collection.

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $66,700 - $88,400

MB & ON: $60,900 - $83,800

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $60,300 - $80,000
