Job summary

Fluor Canada is seeking a Metallurgical Engineer to provide metallurgical support and welding expertise for oil and gas and chemical processing projects. You will assist with material selection, review welding procedures, and support procurement and fabrication activities.

The role requires a 4‑year Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field and at least five years of material selection, testing, corrosion, and welding experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide metallurgical support to project teams for materials in oil, gas and chemical sectors.
  • Provide welding support per industry codes (ASME, AWS, API, DNV, NACE).
  • Support procurement with input to requisition packages and technical bid evaluations.
  • Review Vendor welding procedures and work with vendors to resolve metallurgy and welding non-conformances.
  • Assist Metrology and Welding Group Leader with training of junior staff.

Job Description
  • Provide metallurgical support to the project teams by applying knowledge in the various types of materials used in the oil and gas and chemicals sectors, including an understanding of their applications and limitations.
  • Provide welding support to the project teams by applying knowledge of welding processes and industry welding codes (ASME, AWS, API, DNV, NACE etc.) to specific piping and equipment applications and services.
  • Support procurement activities by providing input to requisition packages and technical bid evaluations for piping and equipment.
  • Support piping and equipment fabrication activities by reviewing Vendor welding procedures. Collaborate with Vendor specialists in resolving metallurgy and welding non‑conformances.
  • Assist the Metallurgy and Welding Group Leader with training and development of junior personnel.
Basic Job Requirements
  • Minimum of 4‑year Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Process Engineering or Materials Science Engineering.
  • Minimum five years of material selection and testing, corrosion, and welding experience in the oil and gas, and chemical processing industries.
  • Eligible for Canadian Professional Engineering designation.
  • Prior experience in the following areas:
    • Development of material selection diagrams and material selection reports for upstream and downstream oil and gas, petrochemicals, and chemical projects.
    • Welding procedures development and review.
    • Codes, standards and best practices associated with metallurgy, welding, and corrosion control in the oil and gas and chemical processing industries, including ASME, API, ASTM, NACE, AWS, CSA and CWB, etc.
  • Results and detail oriented. Excellent organizational skills. Capable of prioritizing tasks and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills (both written and verbal). Able to effectively lead a diverse team of professionals with varying levels of experience.

  • Practical field experience.
  • Intermediate computer and software skills to include the use of word processing, e‑mail, spreadsheet, and electronic presentation programs.

Salary is based upon experience. Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $167,000.00
