Intermediate Mechanical Designer
Reinbold Engineering Group is a national mechanical engineering firm with offices in Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton, and Kelowna. Job Description
- Able to work independently on specified scopes with minimal supervision.
- Assume increased leadership responsibilities, providing coaching and delegating design tasks to team members based on their aptitude.
- Mentor and supervise Mechanical Designers, reviewing their work before submission to Senior Mechanical Designers, Senior Mechanical Engineers, or Project Managers.
- Design and size distribution systems and equipment following industry standards and Reinbold Design Standards and Guidelines.
- Perform load calculations using company-provided software.
- Select mechanical equipment in collaboration with suppliers and manufacturer’s representatives.
- Prepare schematic designs, design development, and construction documents using AutoCAD or REVIT, adhering to Reinbold Design Standards and Guidelines.
- Review your work for errors and omissions prior to supervisor review, utilizing project review checklists and clash detection software.
- Assist in preparing drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate mechanical systems and designs with other disciplines.
- Identify and communicate the need for additional services and fees to project managers promptly.
- Assist with Contract Administration tasks, including shop drawing reviews, RFI responses, and on-site reviews.
- Attend design and construction meetings with clients, consultants, and contractors as needed.
- Maintain project schedules and budgets, tracking work progress and resource utilization with support from the Project Manager.
- Strive to meet company goals of high-quality workmanship and project timelines by improving workflows and design standards.
Experience & Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering and Professional Engineer (P. Eng. or PE) accreditation in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Minimum of 4 years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience in mechanical HVAC and Plumbing design is preferred.
- Strong understanding of mechanical systems, including plumbing, HVAC, heating, cooling, air handling, and fire protection, with the ability to interpret construction drawings.
- Knowledge of current codes and standards, including local plumbing and building codes.
- Familiarity with Reinbold design and documentation standards.
- Understanding of building heating and cooling load calculation principles.
- Proficiency with software such as Microsoft Office, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, REVIT, etc.
