Job summary

Gilder Search Group in Vancouver, BC is seeking an Intermediate Structural Design Engineer to join its structural team. The role focuses on mass timber and hybrid structures, while also supporting restoration and rehabilitation projects throughout the project lifecycle.

You will lead design efforts for residential, commercial and institutional buildings, coordinate with architects and contractors, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring QA/QC standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Structural Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of structural engineering experience in a consulting environment.
• Experience designing mass timber structures (glulam/CLT).
• Experience with hybrid timber, steel and concrete systems.
• Strong connection design and detailing experience.
• Solid understanding of load paths, gravity and lateral systems.
• P.Eng. with EGBC or eligible for BC transfer.
• Proficiency with Revit and ETABS/SAFE/S-Frame/RAM.
• Experience with Rhino/Grasshopper/Speckle/Karamba3D is a plus.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support structural design for new residential, commercial, and institutional buildings.
• Perform structural analysis and design of timber, steel, concrete, and hybrid systems.
• Develop design schemes, basis-of-design documents, and design strategies.
• Detail connections across timber, steel, and concrete.
• Analyze gravity and lateral load paths and verify load transfer.
• Provide solutions for restoration, rehabilitation, and existing-building conditions.
• Conduct site investigations, condition assessments, and construction reviews.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors and stakeholders.
• Present design concepts in client meetings and prepare docs and proposals.
• Manage project delivery aspects including budgets, scope and invoicing.
