As a Hydrogeologist or Hydrogeological Engineer, you will join our Calgary or Edmonton, Alberta office as part of our Western Groundwater team.

The successful applicant will be involved in a broad range of exciting projects with responsibilities as follows:

  • Active participation in maintaining Montrose’s strong safety culture
  • Provide technical and project management support for a wide range of hydrogeology projects including regional and local hydrogeologic assessments, contaminated site assessments, regulatory groundwater monitoring programs, and conceptual site model development
  • Leading the design of and executing hydrogeological drilling and monitoring programs for site characterization, Water Act Authorizations and EPEA Approvals
  • Support engineering needs for groundwater dewatering
  • Lead field programs consisting of collecting soil and groundwater samples, installing monitoring wells, conducting pumping tests and installing, setting up and collecting data from groundwater monitoring equipment
  • Prepare a variety of technical reports including analyzing, interpreting results and reporting hydrogeological data
  • Liaise with clients and stakeholders

What We Are Looking For

  • An undergraduate or graduate degree in geology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering, or a related field
  • Professional Geoscientist/Engineer, or eligibility to register as a Professional Geoscientist/Engineer with APEGA
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within a consulting environment
  • Practical experience in physical and contaminant hydrogeology including conceptual site model development, groundwater monitoring well network design, groundwater-surface water interaction, drilling and aquifer testing programs, risk assessment, risk management, and working knowledge of the Alberta regulatory environment
  • Experience in the mining sector is an asset
  • Experience managing and overseeing field programs with a ground disturbance component
  • Experience working with a range of technical field instruments such as pressure transducers, flow meters, packer systems and geophysical logging tools
  • Demonstrated experience working with industry-standard software packages such as AQTESOLV, Surfer, Q-GIS, AccuMap, GeoSCOUT, FEEFLOW and AQUACHEM
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and effective project management
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and a collaborative attitude
  • Experience writing technical reports
  • A valid class 5 driver’s license with no restrictions and a clean driving record
