Job description

The Opportunity:

You will be part of the risk assessment team within the multidisciplinary Environmental Management team in BC and Yukon, supporting clients with investigation, remediation, and risk assessment. Our team is one of the largest in the region, with over 20 staff practicing in areas such as human and ecological risk assessment, environmental impact assessments, aquatic effects assessments, specialty toxicology, and environmental monitoring. What you can expect to do here:

This role involves implementing multimedia risk assessments (air, water, soil, sediment, biota). You will contribute to preparing human health and ecological risk assessment reports, working within project teams. This position offers growth opportunities by addressing complex environmental challenges and executing responsibilities such as:

  • Analyzing chemical data and calculating risks using Microsoft Excel and standard tools.
  • Applying regulatory and technical requirements for risk assessments under BC and federal regimes.
  • Summarizing and interpreting datasets, conducting statistical analysis, and preparing reports and presentations.
  • Understanding risk assessment components and preparing comprehensive reports.
  • Implementing quality assurance/quality control measures.
  • Managing work within budget and schedule constraints.
  • Assisting in proposal development for new projects.
  • Conducting literature reviews on relevant topics.
  • Developing field programs for sample collection.
  • Supporting the training and mentoring of junior staff.
  • Building internal and external client relationships.
  • Providing technical support for regulatory engagement and stakeholder interactions, including Indigenous Groups and the public.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • Degree in environmental, toxicology, biological sciences, or related field.
  • Registered Professional Biologist (or eligible) with the College of Applied Biology of BC.
  • 4-6 years of relevant experience.
  • Passion for working in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in risk assessments and fieldwork is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of BC CSR standards, federal CCME guidelines, and their application.
  • Strong data evaluation skills, including statistical techniques and data quality considerations.
  • Excellent report writing skills, capable of integrating multidisciplinary information.
  • Effective communicator and team collaborator.
  • Understanding of provincial and federal contaminated site regulations and regulatory submissions.
  • Valid driver’s license and commitment to health and safety.
