Job summary

WSP is seeking an Intermediate Highway Designer/Engineer for our Ontario Highway Design Team, based in Thunder Bay or Sudbury. You will own complex highway design projects, collaborate with top-tier professionals, and gain exposure to cutting-edge technologies in a supportive, dynamic environment.

Ideal candidates have 5–10 years of highway design experience, familiarity with OpenRoads/MTO CPS, and a P.Eng or tech designation is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering.
  • 5-10 years of highway/roadway design experience (MTO projects preferred).
  • P.Eng or Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist designation is an asset.
  • Experience with Design-Build/P3 projects is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Ontario environmental standards, guidelines, and design manuals.
  • Familiarity with OpenRoads and MTO CPS/HICO is an asset.
  • BIM experience is an asset.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Valid G driver’s license is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Technical Delivery: Design highways and drainage systems using OpenRoads, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, AutoTurn, and more.
  • Field Engagement: Conduct site visits to assess existing conditions.
  • Design & Analysis: Prepare alignments, geometrics, cost estimates, quantities, and technical memos.
  • Collaborate Across Disciplines: Coordinate inputs from multiple teams for project execution.
  • Project Planning: Develop level-of-effort estimates and design schedules.
  • Proposal Support: Provide input for proposals and contribute to innovation initiatives.
  • Quality Assurance: Review and check designs for accuracy and compliance.
  • Mentorship: Guide junior team members to foster growth.
  • Client Interaction: Attend technical meetings and document meeting minutes.

Your Impact
  • Lead Technical Delivery: Ensure the successful design of highways and drainage systems using advanced tools like OpenRoads, AutoCAD, MicroStation, Civil 3D, AutoTurn, and more

Compensation

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $89 800 - $118 900

MB & ON: $81 900 - $112 800

NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $81 100 - $107 700
