  • Work with a group of highly motivated, technical, like-minded professionals?

Intrigued? Read on - the details of your next career adventure are below.

What makes us stand out?

Aren’t all consultancies the same? We don’t think so. One of our tag lines “Down to Earth / Up to the Challenge” says a lot about who we are. Our staff are inquisitive, curious, and dedicated to solving complex problems and our size allows us to draw on colleagues across the globe just as easily as if they were across the hall. In broad terms we think KCB’s primary differentiators are:

  • Our global reputation for technical excellence;
  • Our appetite to tackle problems with unique complexities;
  • Access to some of the sectors most amazing talent;
  • Employee ownership and our owner’s mindset;
  • Our size (large enough to win intriguing projects, small enough to know you by name); and
  • Technical focus is maintained at all levels of the organization.

What you would engage in:

Our focus is on the application of critical thinking to the management of mine waste and water. By continuing your career journey with us, you would be part of our Mining Environmental Group, and can sit in one of our following offices: Vancouver/Toronto/Sudbury/Fredericton. The role of Intermediate Geotechnical Engineer comes with the flexibility to work a hybrid work from home and work from the office schedule and will provide you with the opportunity to:

  • Work on local and global mining projects.
  • Design tailing storage facilities for local and global mining projects.
  • Engage with clients, colleagues, and suppliers on environmentally focused field programs and design solutions.
  • Work with the latest versions of industry software.
  • Provide mentorship to staff through the methodologies of tailings storage facility design solutions.
  • Build client rapport through project development, from feasibility through to mine closure.
  • Expand your knowledge by attending conferences and trainings.
  • Be an ambassador for, and potentially become an owner of KCB.

What we require:

We respect the knowledge and experience you have gained to date and are willing to help you build on it. We do however require the following qualifications:

  • A degree in civil engineering or geological engineering; a master’s degree is considered an asset.
  • 6 to 13 years’ experience in geotechnical engineering (preferably for mining or related industries).
  • You must be eligible to register as a professional engineer in Canada.
  • Experience in slope stability and seepage analysis; dam design; earthworks and construction; site investigation and laboratory testing of soils and rock.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., FLAC, PLAXIS, GeoStudio).
  • A general understanding of mining-related regulations and industry’s best practices.
  • An ability to build relationships with multidisciplinary project-based teams.
  • Experience in a safety-focused environment with near miss and incident reporting requirements.

In addition to the must-have requirements above, you will excel in the role if you have the following:

  • Experience in tailings management and dam safety, including good knowledge of applicable standards and guidelines.
  • Experience in seismic analysis of dams and related software packages.
  • An ability to find creative solutions and know how to present them.
  • An ability to build rapport with clients, colleagues, and industry partners.

The salary for this position is $90,000 to $130,000 per year. The salary is based on location, applicable experience, education, and skill level.

Along with continued career development, KCB offers:

  • Hybrid work opportunities.
  • Annual performance and salary review.
  • A track record of profitability, leading to above average bonus payouts.
  • Vacation policy that aligns to your experience.

  • Dedication to WEF’s “Four Pillars” of Environment Social Governance framework: Governance, People, Planet, and Prosperity.
