Work Environment
This position is primarily office-based, with periodic visits to construction sites as necessary. Occasional travel throughout Western Canada may be required. Flexibility to work extended hours during intensive bidding periods is expected.

Key Responsibilities

As an Intermediate Estimator, you will be entrusted with the following:

Bid and Estimate Formulation:
-Thoroughly examine contract documents, including drawings, specifications, and tender forms.
-Perform detailed quantity takeoffs utilizing leading-edge industry software.
-Formulate precise cost projections for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor engagements.
-Create preliminary construction timelines and logistical plans.
-Aid in clarifying ambiguities and addressing unique technical elements within bid documentation.
-Engage with subcontractors and suppliers to secure competitive pricing.
-Assist in managing bid preparation timelines to ensure all deadlines are met.

In-depth Analysis and Reporting:
-Perform comprehensive risk and opportunity assessments for projects, proposing effective mitigation strategies.
-Actively participate in bid review meetings, presenting your analysis to senior leadership.
-Contribute to post-bid evaluations and the documentation of lessons learned.
-Play a role in maintaining and enhancing our historical cost databases.
-Support the refinement of our estimating benchmarks and strategic approaches.

Project-Level Support:
-Offer estimating expertise for change orders and project modifications as they arise.
-Serve as a resource for Project Managers regarding cost-related questions during the construction phase.
-Attend pre-construction meetings as needed to ensure a smooth project kickoff.

Ongoing Professional Growth:
-Remain current with emerging industry trends, innovative construction techniques, and advancements in estimating technology.
-Actively contribute to the enhancement of our internal estimating methodologies and procedures.
-Facilitate the adoption and effective use of new estimating software and tools.

Qualifications and Experience

-A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline is required.
-Pursuit or possession of Gold Seal Certification in Estimating is highly desirable.
-A PQS or CEC designation is considered a significant asset.
-3 to 7 years of hands-on estimating experience within the construction sector, ideally with a general contractor operating in Western Canada.
-A proven track record of estimating diverse commercial projects with values ranging from $2 million to $20 million.
-Proficiency with estimating software such as On-Screen Takeoff, as well as Sage 300 and Procore.

Technical Acumen:
-A robust comprehension of construction methodologies, materials, and prevailing industry standards.
-Expertise in interpreting construction drawings and technical specifications.
-Proficiency in understanding and applying Canadian construction contracts, including CCDC 2, CCDC 5B, and CCDC 14.
-Demonstrated ability to formulate a comprehensive construction execution plan and project schedule.
-Excellent computer literacy, including the Microsoft Office Suite and specialized construction software.
