Job description

DWB Consulting Services Ltd. (DWB) is looking for a knowledgeable and experienced Intermediate Environmental Specialist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership capabilities and extensive experience in environmental monitoring, construction, environmental management, erosion & sediment control and reclamation. This position is based out of our Prince George office.

Work Type : This position involves a combination of office and fieldwork with travel to remote locations.

Compensation : Compensation is dependent on experience level with an expected range of $32- $40 / hr plus overtime, travel, professional dues, benefits, vacation pay, RRSP program and more.

Key Responsibilities

Field and Technical Work :

  • Conduct environmental monitoring for construction and industrial projects.
  • Implement erosion and sediment control (ESC) plans and mitigation measures.
  • Perform fish and wildlife salvages, water quality sampling, nest sweeps, and vegetation surveys.
  • Lead or support reclamation planning and site restoration efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and project permits. Implement environmental management plans, spill response and re-vegetation initiatives.
  • Install, monitor, and maintain erosion and sediment control devices and stream diversions.
  • Develop and apply mitigation measures to minimize environmental impacts.

Project Management and Reporting :

  • Prepare technical reports, monitoring summaries, and regulatory submissions.
  • Assist in environmental permitting and development of environmental management plans.
  • Coordinate field logistics, data collection, and quality assurance.
  • Support project managers with scheduling, budgeting, and client communication.

Collaboration and Mentorship :

  • Collaborate with DWB’s multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, ecologists, and other biologists, to integrate environmental concerns into larger project plans.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, regulators, First Nations, and other key stakeholders to facilitate project success and compliance.

Qualifications and Skills

Education :

  • Minimum of a B.Sc or M.Sc in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Biology, or a related field.
  • Professional designation (RPBio, RPF, PAg or equivalent) is a desirable asset.

Experience :

  • Minimum of 3 to 9 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting or natural resource sectors.
  • Strong field experience in environmental monitoring, erosion and sediment control and reclamation.
  • Experience working with government agencies, regulatory bodies, clients, and First Nations on environmental management projects.
  • Proven experience in proposal writing, report development and budget management.
  • Track record of successfully completing funding applications.

Skills :

  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, including the Water Sustainability Act, Environmental Management Act, and Fisheries Act.
  • Excellent data collection, report writing, and technical analysis skills.
  • Proficiency in GIS, GPS tools, and other technical software for data analysis and field mapping.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams and stakeholders.

Additional Skills and Assets :

  • Certification in erosion and sediment control like CPESC is an asset.
  • Familiarity with environmental legislation and regulatory processes in BC.
  • Experience using GIS software for environmental mapping.
  • Field experience operating 4x4 vehicles off-highway and navigating remote terrain.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Ability to work in challenging field conditions and remote locations.
  • Willingness to travel and work in varied terrains and weather conditions.
