POSITION: INTERMEDIATE TO SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST
We are an expanding progressive surface land and environmental consulting firm with interests in oil and gas, forestry, mining, energy, and agricultural industries, as well as municipal authorities throughout Alberta, British Columbia, and Canada's north. We employ over 85 staff members located in our Fairview, Grande Prairie, Fort St. John, and Terrace offices, offering interdisciplinary expertise to develop environmental solutions across western Canada. With 40 years of experience, we assist clients with regulatory applications and provide consulting on environmental legislation, regulations, and compliance related to project planning, development, and reclamation. GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduate of a recognized Post-Secondary institution or college in Environmental Sciences
- 5+ years of relevant environmental consulting experience
- Accredited through the Alberta Society of Professional Biologists
- Qualified Aquatic Environmental Specialist (QAES) a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- Current Safety Tickets
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
REQUIRED COMPETENCIES
- Ability to identify and manage issues within construction environments
- Effective communication with agencies, clients, contractors, and team members
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation (e.g., Alberta Wetland Policy)
- Understanding of Wetland Assessment and Impact Report (WAIR) and ABWRET-A Tool
- Knowledge of the Code of Practice for Watercourse Crossings in Alberta
- Physical fitness and ability to travel and work in remote, adverse conditions
- Strong commitment to client satisfaction and health & safety culture
- Attention to detail and ability to deliver professional work on time and within budget
- Project planning, logistics, and fieldwork coordination skills
- Effective project schedule and priority management
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written, and technical report writing skills
- Strong working knowledge of the oil and gas industry
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and review environmental management and mitigation plans
- Conduct inspections of construction sites
- Review and oversee contractors' installation of stream crossing structures, water quality, fish salvage, soil stripping, and erosion control activities
- Respond to environmental incidents
- Ensure compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and permits; recommend corrective actions
- Interface with clients and staff regarding environmental services and regulatory requirements
- Build and maintain positive client relationships
- Prepare proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates
- Support business development in oil & gas, mining, and energy sectors
- Design and implement field programs
- Prepare technical reports on wildlife, vegetation, wetlands, and site assessments
- Develop wildlife management, CEMPs, and erosion control plans
- Consult with regulatory agencies
- Maintain documentation in line with Quality Management Plan
- Review technical reports for accuracy and formatting
