Job description

Intermediate Environmental / Regulatory Professional

The Work

Hybrid Office (70%) / Field (30%)

  1. Focus: Perform field and office tasks on oil & gas, pipeline, infrastructure, and renewable energy projects as part of a multi-disciplinary, virtual team.
  2. Shifts: Field shifts, typically lasting between 2-10 days, though longer shifts may be required. Overnight stays in hotels or camps may also be necessary.
  3. Geographic Scope: Majority of projects are located in Alberta.
  4. Data Collection and Monitoring: Conduct environmental field data collection and construction monitoring activities.
  5. Adverse Conditions: Be prepared to work in remote locations and challenging conditions like muddy roads, steep terrain, and snowy environments.
  6. Physical Demands: Carry field equipment such as soil sampling tools and other required gear (Up to 30lb).
  7. Technical Strength: Expertise in the following areas is required:
    1. Regulatory applications (OneStop, DRAS, Public Lands Act)
    2. Background searches (FWMIS, HRV, water wells, etc.)
    3. GIS (ArcGIS, QGIS)
    4. Fish salvage/fish habitat
    5. Water quality monitoring (turbidity)
    6. Wildlife surveys and sweeps
    7. Wetland assessment
    8. Vegetation ecology
    9. Construction monitoring
    10. Pipeline HDD fluids sampling
    11. Soil sampling

Equipment and Tools

  1. Vehicle Operation: Drive light-duty trucks, ATVs, UTVs, and trailers. A valid driver’s license is required.
  2. Field Tools: Use navigational and data collection tools such as Garmin GPS, Avenza, Collector, etc.

Collaboration and Communication

  1. CORE Values: Demonstrate a commitment to CORE values in all professional activities.
  2. Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other CORE team members and client field representatives as necessary.
  3. Communication: Maintain strong verbal and written communication skills to convey information effectively.

Administrative and Support Tasks

  1. Administrative Work: Complete office reporting, QA/QC, data entry, and submission of field data on time.
  2. Meetings and Training: Attend meetings and training sessions as needed.

Availability

  1. Excluding vacation or allotted personal days, Field staff must be available for field work up to 20 days per month, including up to 2 weekends per month.
  2. Excluding vacation or allotted personal days, 10-11 days off can be anticipated per month (i.e., 2-3 more days than other roles).

What you bring to the table

  1. A diploma or bachelor’s degree in conservation biology, land reclamation, natural resource management or forestry.
  2. 5-9 years of relevant experience.
  3. Experience as a Crew Lead.
  4. Intermediate level reporting abilities.
  5. Positive demeanor.
  6. The ability to liaise with clients and make professional in-field decisions.
  7. A love for being on the road and working in both natural and construction environments is essential.
  8. Physically fit with the ability to walk extended distances in challenging field conditions.

The Workplace:

  1. This is a hybrid office & field position, which includes working in a virtual environment from your home office as well as 2-10 day field shifts, as the need arises.
